Team Operation to race at Ironman 70.3 Kansas!
Attention all 2009 Ironman 70.3 Kansas triathlon competitors! Ironman invites you to join the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) and raise funds to help permanently injured military personnel recover through the healing power of sports. By raising a minimum of $1,000 each, triathletes already registered in the event can join Team Operation Rebound Ironman 70.3 Kansas, race side-by-side with heroes wounded defending our freedom, and enjoy a variety of other benefits including an early wave start – all while helping physically challenged military personnel “get back in the game.”

Members of Team Operation Rebound Ironman 70.3 Kansas will enjoy an unforgettable race experience. Aside from the opportunity to take on the grueling 70.3 triathlon alongside true American heroes, other benefits include:

• An official Team Operation Rebound Ironman 70.3 Kansas uniform

• A special “Operation Rebound” early wave start

• A commemorative team photo suitable for framing

• A special “Operation Rebound” racking zone in the transition area

• An inspirational pre-race luncheon on Friday before the race where members can meet their wounded warrior teammates

• A CAF race belt and water bottle

• VIP registration – no waiting in line (team packet pick-up at luncheon)

• The opportunity to earn cool incentive prizes for those raising more than $1,000

Operation Rebound provides unparalleled sports opportunities and support to our troops and veterans of any branch of service and first responders who have suffered permanent physical injuries in the line of duty. Funds raised allow CAF to support our injured heroes with equipment, competition and training grants, outreach, the online forum and the Military Medical Center Physical Training program.

Injured troops expected to race as part of the 2009 Team Operation Rebound Ironman 70.3 Kansas include Major Anthony Smith, U.S. Army (ret.), Corporal Evan Morgan, USMC (ret), Sergeant Mike Gallardo, U.S. Army (ret.), Captain Chris Ayres, USMC (ret.), and Lieutenant Colonel Patricia Collins, U.S. Army. Read more about these and other inspiring CAF Operation Rebound athletes at www.operationrebound.org and please join them in raising even more funds to support our injured heroes.

Sign up for Team Operation Rebound Ironman 70.3 Kansas and help our injured troops get back into the game. CAF makes fundraising simple and easy through an online Race for A Reason program. A one-time, nominal registration fee of $25 gets you an official fundraising web page, an easy-to-follow fundraising kit, inspirational emails from your injured military teammates and an Operation Rebound technical training shirt. To join the team and qualify for all benefits, participants must raise a minimum of $1,000 by Friday, May 29.

AWESOME OPPORTUNITY! For sure one of the best causes out there.

Outstanding. Thanks for getting the word out on this. Hoping to see you guys there- either as a racer or a volunteer.

Nice work Tom…that is a sweet incentive for a great cause.

It is an Honor to be able to help this organization out with this program! I hope lots of athletes sign up and raise money for these guys and gals in our military. Z

I raced for CAF at Florida 70.3 last year. It was a great time and the early wave start is very nice.

I’m really interested in doing this, but does the early start wave in any way impact qualifying slots for Clearwater? Also, do you have to wear the uniform? I think this is really neat and want to do it.

Good Questions! You can still join this program and raise money and also qualify for Clearwater. If you want to qualifty for Clearwater, you MUST go off in your age-group wave. It would not be fair to age-groupers if we allowed some to go in a early wave. You do not have to wear the uniform in the race. If you are not interested in going to Clearwater, you will be allowed to go off in this wave with the Challenged Athletes. Z

Tom, I know that you have been affiliated with CAF in the past…this was my first time. I sent out the eblast last weekend without knowing the kind of response it would receive…the response has been great…and rightfully so! What an inspirational cause…glad to be a part of it!

Long time lurker first time poster. I have been in the army for almost 12 years and have a very special place in my heart for disabled vets. They are people you know or see on the street all the time. I am going to raise money for this if you would like to help I would appreciate it.

Ryan - I hope we can get some media (Kansas City TV) to come out to the race in June to cover these athletes as they compete at IM 70.3 Kansas. EVERYONE at the event will be inspired by these soldiers! Z
