If you were in the Market right now for aero wheels what would you do?

I am thinking about getting another pair of aero wheels that are deeper than the current ones I have. I currently have EDGE 45 Carbon Clinchers which I was thinking about still using to race but adding a wheel cover on the back. They are pretty light at 1282g for the pair and if I add the cover I would still have a fairly light and fairly aero set up.

I was thinking of just leaving the 45’s on my road bike and picking up some 60mm aero wheels. The Planet X wheels are very tempting at their price and with a wheel cover on the back I believe would be a bit more aero than myh Edge 45’s.

There is also the Flo’s which are coming out at some point and I am not sure I want to wait that long. I would like to keep it under $750 if possible for the wheelset.

Thoughts would be much appreciated.

Just bought a pair of Planet X wheels. 82/101’s are super deep and I picked them up with stems and skewers for 550

Since you have the 45’s I would personally hold out for the Flo’s. I test rode a 90mm last year and was very impressed, don’t think you will regret waiting…I know I am, even at the risk of racing on a non-aero front, or having to borrow one for some races if I have to.

Sorry I should have said that I would like to stay with Clinchers if possible. However if I was to go with Tubulars I would go the route you did for sure.

Waiting for the Flo’s is tough because a lot of people were waiting and there was already one delay. Is there going to be another and I race on the 45’s all year long and miss out on a potential other deal. Not saying that Flo’s is not doing all they can do and by all of their posts, they are going about it the right way. I do like the fact that I could go 60 front and 90 rear with the Flo wheels and get a cover but will a cover work on the 90 Flo’s because doesn’t wheelbuilder say that up around that size they have a hard time getting the disc curved the right way?

808 fc cc and wheel covered rear. any other option is just pursuing a cool factor and not speed.

Lightweight wheels…name is no fib expensive yes… better than Zipp? Maybe yes maybe no.if I had the money I’d so lieghtweights

Well I can’t answer all of that for you; but personally I’d wait. Besides there is little to no performance increase from the Edge 45’s to the Planet X 60’s. I also don’t know about a cover on a 90, but pretty sure I’ve seen HED Jet 90’s on here for sale with covers, and and 808 is only 1cm shallower so I’m sure it’ll work fine…at least I hope it will, that’s my plan.

$750 for 60mm clincher carbon wheels?

Not full carbon clincher wheel. Aluminium rims with carbon fairings like the Flo, HED Jet and Planet X wheels are.

Right, the PX 60mm wheels are 1810g!

In answer to the question/thread title, I’m waiting for a FLO60 to replace my Felt TTR3 front, and will keep my wheelcover+Ksyrium Elite rear.

Never said anything about weight and not worried about it. If that was the case I would just use the Edge 45’s and be done with it. I want something deeper which is going to mean a fair bit more weight and since the bike is only 15lbs with the Edge 45’s it will still be under 17lbs with an 1800g wheelset.

I’d suggest the Williams Cycling carbon clinchers. You can customize a set so you get a 85 rear and 58 front. Total price = $1,049.

For what it’s worth I emailed Kieth (owner) last night and received a reply within an hour.

If clincher, zipp 808 firecrest, no better at the moment. If tubbie, then 808 firecrest, hed stinger, or new bonty.

After swapping over to 23mm wide rims and 95psi a few years ago, I settled in on Zipp 101’s as a great option - clincher, aero (in some cases as aero as 45mm competitors) and light at 1530g

And 404 carbon clinchers for racing rolling road courses

Alternately, I would look at the Jet 6’s
.

Jon just posted that they are looking at their pre-order to take place in Jan on the Flo’s.

Flo’s almost qualify as vaporware for as long as they have been touted. Yes, I realize they are soon to be in production and/or sold as a product and I would consider them myself, if they existed now. It’s a lot like the PM market with folks always waiting for the PM of their dreams, and waiting and waiting instead of utilizing.

As mentioned I do not have more than $750 to spend which does get me the Flo’s I believe or a pair of the Planet X wheels. Therre are a ton of Carbon Clincher of Fleebay but I am just not sure I trust them. Can get a pair of 88mm deep full carbon clinchers made up but honestly I would be very sceptical of the quality.

If you already have 45’s, I would certainly go deeper than 60.

The new Bontrager Aeolus D3’s are really nice and have a great price. A 60/90 combo or 90/90 combo.

I’m considering an Aeolus 90 front and HED Jet disc or the 90/90 combo. I currently have HED H3’s. I’d like to have something to compliment them.
