If you could have DNS and pushed your entry/gotten a refund, would you?

As we all know, WTC races do not offer any type of refund or rollover (past a certain date. They give $150ish back if you cancel early).
If you had the option to push your entry to another race or get a refund - would you have not started?

I did IMAZ this year. The Wednesday prior to the race, I caught a stomach virus. I was a mess for about 48 hours. Felt okay by race day. Started and finished. But about 3 hours in, my stomach turned inside out. I was very close to becoming “PoopMan IMAZ” (although - much, much slower than the dude from FL).

If I could have changed my entry to another race within a few months, I would have. I was not willing to throw away almost $600.00.

for sure. In 2008, I finished IMAZ with a torn Soleous muscle. it was a shitty, shitty long day. I would have loved to bag it and do a later race. Looking back, I should have bagged it regardless.

I think in this thread you will see the exact reason they do not offer a refund option last minute. I would bet 30-40% of people would defer races at the last minute. Can you imagine the logistical nightmare that would be?
