If you could build up wheels using any components, what would you build?

Hi all,

I have been looking at building up a new pair of race wheels for overall use in triathlon (mostly long course). So I got to thinking which rims, which hubs, which spokes, laced how. What are the merits of each etc. Price should not be the issue here.

Interested in people’s opinions.

Lew pro-vt-1 Lightest production wheel. full on sex appeal-not a me too wheel- aero-tubular-handmade-

other wise I would do 606’s on dt swiss ceramics-light bladed spokes tubular.

If I was going to build up a set of race wheels rather then purchase a prebuilt set they would be:

Zipp 520 Clincher Rims FT (20h) and Rear (24h)
DT Swiss Ceramic 190 Front Hub
DT Swiss Ceramic 190 Rear Hub (campangnolo) or PowerTap 2.4SL w/ceramic bearing upgrade
DT Swiss Aero Speed Spokes (Black) & Alloy Npples
Specialized S-Works Mondo tires
Vitoria Ultralite tubes
.

Both of you suggested the DT Swiss 190s. I am just curious why not the tune mag 45 and 140/150?

I thought about buidling up a pair of 606s, how light do you think I could get them?

Hed 3 clinchers, aluminium rim, with the ceramic bearing option (since price isn’t an issue).

I am only familier with Tune in the fact they exsist. With DT Swiss on the other hand I have had good personel experience with their hubs as well built, durable and lightweight products. The 190 appeals to me becuase it adds ceramic bearings to that equation.

Having spent a bit of time in Europe I would recommend the Tune Mig / Mag all the way - all of the Tune gear that I have seen is seriously nice, strong and uberlight

Lace them onto some Lews and you better be passing EVERYBODY…

Anyone have an idea of who I can get to build these wheels?

Buy the parts from poshbikes or direct from lew / zipp

And look for recommendations for a seriously good wheelbuilder in your area
.

I would call Cees up and get some ADAs built up for me. Probably cost more than a couple Euros however.

If you check the lightweight site, most of their custom standard builds for the pro tour riders (yes, an oxymoron I know) are now with DT Swiss hubs over Dura Ace.
