Being Ash Wednesday for Catholics I thought this deserved a discussion, according to the article NASA is searching for earth like planets around the rest of the galaxy and believe there is a possibility of discovering some form of alien life.
**IF **we do ever discover alien life, even just little ameboas swimming around another planet, does that pretty much debunk most religons especially those that follow the bible?
IF you believe in a higher form of existence and such a discovery was made would it shake your beliefs?
To me I totally believe that somewhere in the vastness of space some other planet or moon is appropriately placed so that some form of existence is occuring. What type of existence that is, well I’m not ready to make that prediction.
religion are immune to debunking. reason, rational thought, logic, is isn’t FOR them.

“… The vastness of the universe means it is possible there can be other forms of life outside earth – even intelligent ones,” he said. “How could we mere humans ever think of trying to limit the infinite mind, power and wisdom of a great God who is our father and creator?”
The discovery of alien life would not alter any one’s beliefs. First of all faith is just that, faith it doesn’t have anything to do with proof or scientific discovery. Besides, the bible states that man was created in Gods image, so it really doesn’t matter if God also created other intelligent beings. The fighting issue will be if the aliens also claim they were created in Gods image. That’s when the omnipresent shit hits the fan.

LR material, but I'll bite. Logic, eh? What type of logic goes into this portion of the OP's statement:
To me I totally believe that somewhere in the vastness of space some other planet or moon is appropriately placed so that some form of existence is occuring. What type of existence that is, well I’m not ready to make that prediction.
To me, this statement is also completely based on faith, because there are only theories to support that life can exist elsewhere – no facts. So the context of this statement is the same as any other religious statement. Chew on that, for a minute or two. If life is found, anyone would be foolish to ignore those facts. Start your next troll when that occurs.
Trust me I think almost everyone is an idiot, including myself.
But I still love you all
and myself

I think this question has already been answered. Didn’t we already discovered ameboas and a bunch of other stuff they couldn’t see back in the day when the Bible was being written? Heck, the ancients discovered whole new parts of the world filled with people who had never heard of their God(s). What’s another planet or two? We’ve already been down this road a few times over the centuries . . . .
The OP is right. Given that space is infinite, that means there are an infinite number of planets and an infinite number of planets that could support life. Basic probabilities tell you that there ARE planets with life.
space is not infinite, according to the current prevailing evidence

I don’t know, bubble universe theory anyone? (Yeah, yeah, space/time, meta universe, dark matter etc. lets just say the odds are in favor of other life)
Its an interesting thought experiment, as it lays out the parameters you need to compute the odds of intelligent life existing in the universe (other than me)
you can plug in perfectly plausible guesses for all of the unknown parameters and get a near 0% chance of life or a near 100% chance of life.
But, we are progressing on making those guesses better!
