Based on his previous race tactics, I think he would have gone HUGE on the bike back in to town with the tailwind and blown up on the run. Top 10 but no where near top 5.
8:10 last year. Times were faster this year. How does he not make top 3? I don’t understand. He’s a year older so he is slower? or what are you thinking? No way in hell he is not in top 3. He’s going to bike faster or right with Crowie, and it’s not like he blows Macca out of the water on the run b/c he ran a 2:43 last year. How is it he doesn’t win or be in the top 3?
I don’t think anyone was beating Crowie this year, but I am not sure how the dynamics of the race would have played out between Raelert and Jacobs if Macca was among them.
people have a short memory on this website. It lasts for 6 months.
Exactly…people on this site are almost comical in their interpretations and predictions.
So now, let me get this straight…Macca can not run with Crowie…but in another thread, Raelert is the best runner…but Macca beat Raelert heads up last year…and Crowie if I remember right…
Whatever…I’m confused…Macca gets top 18 and barely edges out top age grouper because of his short course focus that completely derailed his ability to race an ironman…that’s safe.
His short course focus didnt slow him down in Cairns… 2:51 mara in very very tough conditions. He would’ve struggled for a top 10 with his short course focus, but if he was concentrating on IM all season it would’ve been interesting
People love beating up on Macca. He would’ve come of the bike with Crowie, he would’ve smashed himself along Ali’i but I think Craigs ability would’ve seen a seperation in the mid to latter parts of the run.
It is really silly to compare times from different years as it doesnt take into account the conditions (which were very favourable on the bike this year) and the way the race is dictated.
yep, his typical dnf. He was counting on Crowie going 8:18 remember! He would not know how to ride with Crowie in the lead.
Obviously, I am not a fan. Look at his previous results. Pressure would have been huge to repeat- couldn’t happen.
Yeah right? (not directed at you jack) Because Macca never repeats at any of the races he wins…
That would have been epic, and I bet Macca is playing the whole thing out too… I think he would have been taken a little by surprise by Crowie’s ride this year, but if anything he would have added to that small break on the bike to help that group of 4 to put more time into Raelert and Jacobs. Then it would have been mano a mano. I think he wouldve had a tough time running head to head with Crowie but it would have been possible, and I think Macca has the mental edge in that situation (which might not amount to a hill of beans…) But then again, Macca did2:43 on a windier day last year, Crowie cramping in the last mile…
Who knows, but i can’t freaking wait until next year!
This is funny, the bike was 6-7min faster this year, so macca bike 4:31 would be 4:25ish same effort, and he ran a 2:43, why does everyone say craig is a better runner, macca best run splits are 2:43 and 2:42 and his 2:42 out did craig that year and he had time to celebrate, he could have gone under 2:42 and maybe even under 2:41 that year if he was pushed… For macca to say craig is a better runner is nothing more than a head game ’ yo crowie dont worry about me out biking you, because your are a better runner’ hehe
these are solid theories backed by data…
i like it!
