I just read in Bicycling Magazine (June 2004) that if your bike gets stolen, you can help yourself during the arduous task of getting it back.

Should your stolen bike ever be recovered, be prepared to prove that it’s unmistakeably yours: Spray a small, discreet area, such as the underside of the top tube, with a clear coat then roll your thumb over it to create a fingerprint. - Paul Johnson, MN"
