Ideas for April Cycling Camp in eastern US?

Can anyone suggest destinations for a cycling week in the eastern US states? My original plans of a AZ holiday have fallen through.

My criteria:

-within 12 hours drive of Toronto (so that gets me as far as, what, Virgina or North Carolina?)
-warmer than here! average temps of, say, 55+?
-cyclist-friendly roads, naturally
-road amenities available (food, lodging, etc)
-nearby pool would be a great bonus

Thanks for any and all input!
Dave

If its late April you should consider Lake Placid N.Y… Its off season there so the hotels are cheap and in addition to the challegning IM bike course, there is the Tupper Lake Half Iron distance course close by. You may get hit by a passing snow shower, but HTFU. At least you won’t suffer from heat exhaustion. Tim

Hi Dave,

I host a triathlon camp in Asheville NC that was designed with precisely your criteria in mind. The riding is incredible and its great to start out the Ontario triathlon season with a week of Asheville climbs in your legs (not to mention the swims and runs).

This year the camp runs April 19-25 and I still have a handful of spots available.

Details are at www.mikestriadventure.ca

PM me if you would like to know more. Also, if you were just looking to do your own thing or go on a different week I would be happy to give you some advice and ride ideas to make the most of your week.

I would recommend Table Rock State Park in South Carolina. It is just south of the North Carolina State Line and the riding is spectacular and you can stay at the state park cabins. OK the riding is great if you like to climb becasue there isn’t much flat land around there. We have gone down the last few years and just rode like crazy. Temps tend to be in the high 50s to start and normally get into 70s mid day though one year it was 50s when we got there and by the end of the week it was in the 90s. Here is the link to the park http://www.southcarolinaparks.com/park-finder/state-park/350.aspx. This area is one of the most cycling friendly areas I have ever been. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that cycling is a big tourist attaction for the area. The closest major city is Greensville, SC. If you want to swim you can go to Clemson and swim in the rowing basin which is about 40min from the park.

From South Etobicoke the drive is anywhere between 12-14hrs depending on how many times you stop, what the border is like and how fast you drive.
