I think that I have come across an interesting idea to help to restore Constitutional Checks and Balances that would be as the framers originally intended. The idea is simply to have the election decide the President and the Vice-President independantly rather than as running-mates. I know that this was the practice up through Lincoln’s Presidency (both terms) but honestly I don’t know when we got away from it or why.
I think this would work because it allows for the Republic to possibly elect a mixed party Executive Branch. For instance a Republican President and a Democrat Vice-President. Using todays current situation, you could have a Democrat President of the Senate. How would that be for interesting politics?
For all of those people who think that politics is ugly now…
