Icy Bath

Ok, I did it for the first time tonight. Filled the tub half with water, poured in 3 bags of ice and jumped in for 15 minutes. Hope it helps to heal/recover a bit before the race tomorrow. Did a 6 hour brick today and ice bath was recommended.
Getting in was a bit of a bitch, once I fully sat down it was ok. Yes, tomorrows are is some speed work before July 20ish.

Let us know what good this HOPEFULLY did for you
.

Warm cloth held around the boys goes a long way.

How do you feel now? Much better I assume. I love ice baths, they really work!

I’ve heard people talk about these but it seems like a lot of work. When you say three bags of ice what exactly do you mean? Do you mean three 10 pound bags that you get from the grocery store or something else? I was thinking that if I ever did one I’d put some cold water in the tub and then just dump the contents of my fridge ice maker into the tub. Would that be sufficient?

A bath with 100% cold water from the tap works great too, the ice is not necessary. I got some neoprene socks from a scuba dive shop for wearing in the bath as it was too painful to keep my feet submerged. 20 minutes after a long hard run or ride does wonders for recovery.

My ice maker doesn’t hold enough to get the job done. I use 4 10 pound bags. Do it once and you’ll be hooked.

I agree. If I’m at home then it’s an ice bath in the tub… in the summer I just stand up to my hips in the ocean, it is cold right now! In the winter at school, no ice baths :frowning:

Hi, my name is Brian, and I’m an Ice-Bathaholic…

easier if you fill the tub and get in, THEN bring in the ice bags on top of you.

You are all crazy. In college I always had something I had to ice after practice, and so I usually ended up in a chair with one foot, an elbow, and the opposite hand dunked in buckets of ice water, and that was some uncomfortable time. I had friends who had to do the ice bath thing for their backs, and they hated it. I can’t imagine doing it if I didn’t need it.

yes, that would def. work.

I used the bads you get a grocery store. JUst cold water would probably work just as good as the ice melted in a few minutes. hmm, maybe I put in too much water?

Considering the long 6hr brick on Saturday, I did very well. 3rd overall to some really fast guys. The winner was 8th at AG Oly worlds last year, he beat me 2.5 minutes. Second place beat me by 3 sec. They both beat me out of the water by al least 90 seconds, so my legs were fine.

Four ice bags next time.

Has anyone tried and Epsom salt ice bath. My buddy swears by the salts I swear by the Ice. Could it be a match made in heaven
