be careful…at the start of NYC marathon there is a sign that says ‘not reaching this sign? no marathon’ heheeh (not everyday that I can find someone shorter than me )
Congrats, I ran it last year. Not a good day for me at all, but an awesome experience. There’s nothing like having spectators for virtually the entire course. I ended up staying at a friend’s house in NJ, so I grabbed the bus that they provide (for $25) at the Meadowlands. Do take one of the busses though vs. arranging your own transportation–it’s a mess as you get close to the starting area. Bring plenty of reading material for the few hours that you may be waiting in the starting area–and pre-race food/drink if that’s in your plan. That’s all I can think of off the top of my head but I’m sure there’s more. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions. Good luck.
Congrats…I just got in as well…will this be your first? Have a goal in mind? Not sure how I am handling logistics this year. I am pretty local to NYC so there’s not much to think about. I’ll PM ya if I find any helpful info…
Congrats. My other half ran it in 2003 and I went last year in 2004. We stayed at the Marriott Marquis which is a host hotel or on the list anyway. They have a lot to chose from in terms of places to stay. It was roughly $225+/night which is ok considering it is NYC.
Definitely book your bus pass in advance as they do sell out from mid town and you could not buy them for mid-town at the expo.
Heard that the pasta party is good fun, but I didnt make it there. He did and said it was well worth it.
Nice to have family at the finish line with some clothes as it can be a long walk or taxi ride back to the hotels.
HASBEEN: doing the HIM lasts only several hours (which i’m told is normal - even if no cialis is involved), but the effects on one’s body can be long-lasting. you bring up a good point… it might make me a bit tired. i will have to incorporate that into my training.
his name? clermont. from people I know who’ve done this HIM (and there are a lot of em out there - both guys and girls), it’s hard to maintain a good rhythm and it tends to be too hot for most people.
Damn!! Second year in a row that I didn’t get in. I’m doing IMFL next next year so I guess 2006 will be out as well. I guess that means I will be doing the Montauk 1/2 Iron race this October instead of training for NYC
Ironmom
Did you do the Montauk HIM last year? If so, how was it? I know the course real well but didn’t make last year’s race. (I will this year.) Thanks in advance.
