I went for a quick ride after work last night on a quite country road in beautiful northern Michigan. About 20 minutes into the ride, I stopped to make a minor adjustment to my bars (dialing in new Hed clip lites). A late model black sedan with three high school age kids drives by and shoots me in the ass with a b-b gun. The damn thing left a large welt that made the rest of the ride uncomfortable.
Here are my questions for all of you:
Report it even though I can give no meaniful info to the police?
Laugh it off?
Request Hed to send me a disk as compensation for their role in this tragedy (did I mention the emotional pain and suffering I am going through)?
I realize that those you who know me will think this story is very funny and that I probably deserved on some cosmic level, but trust me, it hurt both my ass and my pride!
This is assault and in no way should be condoned. Call the police and report as much detailed information that you can. At least they will now have a record of the incidend as well as general description of the perpetrators and vehicle.
Your silence would only condone their actions. Speak up!
Yes, report it. You never know how many times this has already been done and sometimes it takes more than one report for the police to act. You never know, they could’ve “taken your eye out”!

On one of my runs I was thrown a firecracker at… At first I thought it was a cigarette so I almost put it out with my foot (while I ran), but decided against it. Then .5 seconds later it blew up. Could of really injured my foot… Too bad I didn’t see who threw it or else I would have came to their house and burned their car or something…
if they shot at you and it put out your eye would you report it? yes you need to report it,maybe you will stop them before they get tired of the bb gun and start useing a real gun. and i have been shot at with a real gun
Same thing happened to me about 10 years ago - except I was shot in the face… Did you know that a BB can go completely through your cheak and lodge in your tounge?? Neither did I until it happened…!
Hardest part was explaining the whole scenario to the nurse and then having to have my tounge x-rayed! Got to be a bit funny after a while!
I reported mine “incident” but since I was unable to get a plate number, it didn’t do any good…
Same thing happened to me during the summer. It was not a bb though, it was some soft pellet gun which is all the rage for kids. Still hurts though. The gun itself looks like a glock and really worries the police as it is difficult to tell the difference in poor light. I didn’ realize what had happended the first time I was hit, but later in the run they did it again and I caught the make and model of the truck. Green Cherokee . . . and I am still lookin’ for 'em.
I did report it - cops said it was quite common. But they did follow up and may have caught them.
In Pataskala, OH we had a simalar thing happen to a biker about a 3 or so weeks ago. He was out for a ride when a car load of teenagers pulled up next to him and hit him with a “club” on his back. Luckily, he was not hurt to bad or even ran over by the cement truck that was coming up behind him over the hill. The cement truck driver stopped 4and asked if he was okay. Even he could not believe what he just seen. The biker told him to try to catch up with them and at least get a plate number. The biker then went to the local church, which was right up the road from the incident. He and the pastor, who are friends, went after the car also. With no avail, the biker did report the incident to the police and now is offering an award for the arrest and convintion of the teenagers.
Don’t let this go without reporting it.
Thank God this was only a bb gun and you were shot in the butt. Don’t let your pride get in the way of jerks like those kids.
I see a pattern here. The only thing you and I have in common is that we both know Degan and are both much better looking than he is. Was it possible that he was downstate during the time of your shooting? I will investigate “Jackgate” further from here!
Oh my god - I never thought of that. It is him . . . or he arranged for this to happen.

FYI - 3D is putting on a tri in GH next summer on July 10. Not all of the details have been worked out and I am probably not supposed to say anything, but WTF - Lake michigan swim, nice challenging bike on a newly asphalted lakeshore drive and a run on the boardwark and harbor island. Transitions and stuff at the YMCA.
sweet - also, after the response to the first annual Petoskey tri, Kenny is pumpin’ up the west side with tris. Word is there will be one in Ludington also. Petoskey, Interlochen, Ludington and GH . . . I can’t wait.
And Mackinaw City! One of the funnest tris I have done. After the race, you get to ride back to Petoskey/Harbor Springs along the most beautiful road in Michigan - M119 through Cross Village and Goodhart. We can finish at Jack’s for beer and burgers. I might even invite him to join us.
I love M119 - My wife’s parents have a place on the lake behind the Good Hart store. I would like to stop at legs for some good imports though. I have done a lot of mountain biking up there, but not much road - - this past year being my first year biking and swimming. It is good terrain and explains why you guys (and girls - man your wife is fast) are good bikers.

I think you should call the cops and tell them that you got shot with a b-b gun. If they did it to you, they’re probably planning on doing it to someone else. that could cause a serious accident and somebody could really get hurt–like accidently ride out in the road and get hit by a car.
