I want to get to know you guys!

As you are all aware, its hard for someone new to break into a well established forum. Well I just wanted to let you guys know who I am, after lurking here for about 6mths now and just started posting recently.

My name is pinkboy, Im 21 (just a couple of weeks ago actually), and am a serious Triathlon nut. I am a
Child Educator in a toddler room (18mths-2.5yrs) in a child care centre, working 40hrs and training around 30hrs a week. I have done 4 IMs (IMOZ x3(02, 03, 04) and IMNZ x1(03)), 12 half IMs, and do various local Oly/Sprint occasionally.

My IM times are 14:22, 10:40, 10:31 and more recently at IMOZ 9:34, where I qualified for Hawaii. I will be there in October looking to go around 10:00hrs. My half IM pb is currently 4:36, but Im working on going around 4:20odd this coming August. I one day dream of going pro, when I grow up that is.

Well, as the name suggests, I am a boy - and I wear pink. Well not just wear it, but everything that I race in is pink. I have a pink custom painted Cervelo P3 (as if you would ride anything else, huh), pink 1 piece race suit, dye my hair pink, pink race shoes, swimcap etc. You name it, I got it pink- or carbon (have to break the color a little). I had a disk wheel damaged on an airline, so they paid me out cash - and upon reading this site, I got a Renn disk. It is sweet, and I think Im just about the only Aussie to have one. Goes well with my trispoke front wheel. I also own a Kestrel Talon, to train on, and a Giant TCR on the trainer and a … well you get the idea, Im a bit of a tech head too.

I am totally addicted to Triathlon, more so now than when I was a newbie. I love reading everything I can on the subject, and post at a few forums here and there. I cant wait for the hype of Hawaii, and hope to meet some of you guys there.

pinkboy…so thats me, introduce yourselves!!!

Well pinkboy, nice to meet you, I’m berndog, a physician so I train when I can, currently training for my first ironman in Florida, need to train for the swim more. I’m married and trying to get my wife into triathlon but she doesn’t swim really well.

As for you, I’m not sure I believe you on this pink cervelo thing or all of you other pink items. WE NEED PROOF. YOU MUST POST PICS.

Hope to see you more often on the forum.

You’re a friend of Bernie’s, right? I think she pointed you out in Taupo last year. Welcome! And, NICE BIKE!!!

clm

Dude, you’ve done 4IM’s before the age of 21??? That’s insane and very impressive. How did you go from 14:22 to 9:34? Are you coached? Normally, I’d be a little worried about a guy dressed in so much pink but with those IM times, I’ll let it slide

well pinkboy you are a fashionable young man, i have to say.

in the bleeding edge world of singlespeed mtn biking, for example, pink is the new black. it is a cyclical thing, pink - tracing back to the early eighties with pink benotto tape and derosa’s, and of course that whole 50’s thing with the pink cadillac before that.

i ride a few pink bikes myself - once i met my wife’s brother for the first time. he lives on kodiak island in alaska, and was a diesel mechanicic on fishing boats for the guys who fish the bering sea, the toughest mofo’s on the face of the earth. he rolled up to me and shook my hand, and said " nice to meet you - i only got one question. what is with the PINK bike ??"

i paused for dramatic effect ( or fear ), and answered " well mike if you ride a pink bike to better make goddam sure you stay fast "

he smiled, and replied " you know, that is the ONLY good answer to that question".

stay fast, pinkboy.

I am a wannabe triathlete and a disciple of Mr. Tibbs. He claims to be an atheist and yet, he has spawned a new religion. We worship him and his lack of english skills. We aspire to be him. He is all knowing, all seeing, and a true visionary. If not for Tibbs, half of my old stuff would be in the trash outside of the local Goodwill. A temple will rise in Texas. It will resemble a giant bishop. It will be gleaming and shiny. It will be painted like a Cervelo P3.

Ok, Tibbs, you can wake up now.

Just for you brother T, be the first on your block to wear one…

just beautiful, man

is it race legal?

I have been lurking and occasionally posting here on slowtwitch now probably for 2+ years. I was out of shape and decided that I needed to change some things in my life about 4 yrs ago–thus getting into triathlons. I completed in my first IM last year (13:07). Today I leave for San Fran to do Alcatraz for the first time. I am a former swimming coach so I am one of those fish who struggles with running. Interesting thing though, I would rather go for a run now than for a swim. But when you stack me up against other triathletes I am a poor runner.

I am a high school chemistry teacher. I have taught for 18 years and still get energy from the kids. I think I was born to teach. In fact, last year I was named the Colorado science teacher of the year.

I am very active with my faith and enjoy discussing it in non-threating ways why I believe what I believe. In fact I see triathlon as an extension of my faith in God. One of my life quotes from the bible that I attempt to live my lifef by is: “Whatever you do do it with all your might, as working for the Lord and not men”

As a result of triathlon my wife and I started an ebay busniess where we sell cycling and triathlon clothes (tristuff4less.com). It has been fun, and slightly lucrative–don’t quit your day job-- to be on the fringes of the bicycling industry.

My wife is not a triathlete, but recently she has started cycling. I am very proud of her. She is losing weight and feeling better about herself. She is training for the Colorado Courage Classic–A 3 day 150 mile ride that benefits the local Children’s Hospital. In fact as I write this she is out riding on a 2.5 hr ride.

I have three kids who are wonderful.

So that is my belated introduction. Thanks pinkboy for introducing yourself. I probably needed to do this a long time ago.

JBergmann (aka Jon Bergmann)

Well, pinkboy, that was quite a post. My profile says a little about me. I am not much of an Ironman type, more of a slightly shorter triathlon type. Where do you live? Anywhere near Sydney? I fly out there fairly often. Know of any decent tri clubs out there? Your bike and equip. sound unreal. Any chance you can show us a photo of this pink bike and your pink gear?

It can be, you need to cover it with Spenco material for shock absorption and then you can wear that bugeye fairing/helmet that Michellie Jones wears…

The aluminum doesn’t have to be on top, but it CAN BE!!

Thanks guys!

I can hardly use a computer, so if I email pictures of my bike to someone could they put them on here for me?

I am my own coach. My 14:22 effort was due to very bad gastro leading up to and including the race. During the ride I was off the bike in the loo every 10ks and in the run every 2ks. Very delerious in the run and was just glad to finish my first IM when I was just 18. I do all my own programming, mostly just mimmicking swim/bike/run sets found on various sites on the net, forums, magazines, books etc. As I said, I am a nut. I also do all my training by myself, that way you are trained to IM, which is essentially - by yourself.

Mr. Tibbs, I love you so!

So you will hear from me more often as I post a little more now, and hope to meet some of you in Hawaii!!!

pinkboy

Hi Pinkboy

Congrats on 4 IMs by age 21 with a very solid progression. I’ll be looking for you in Hawaii and by the sound of things you should be easy to spot. I’ll be easy to find too since I ride a Wheeler and according to last year’s bike stats there were no Wheelers in the racks at Kona so I may be unique. We’ll probably cross paths out on the course since I’m looking at continuing my streak of sub-10s.

Allan

Yeah mate that is me at about 28k into the marathon IMOZ last year - started to suffer there after doing IMNZ 4 weeks before.

Hair and race suit will be similar in Hawaii too. Bit more weight also!

pinkboy

Good luck in Kona, my friend.

Dare I ask WHY PINK? Or, more to the point, what in the hell started you on this Ralph Steadmanesque pursuit?

32, IT Contractor, born in Ireland, moved to Sydney in 1999. Ex-competitive swimmer, spent a couple of years sitting on a couch getting fat. Decided to do something about it and am training for my first tri in September. Can’t run for shit so am training for the Sydney Harbour Bridge 10K first, then will do a sprint tri shortly afterwards.

After that, who knows? I’ve been posting/lurking here for almost a year, mainly annoying people with my atheist/liberal/pinko/commie views, and occasionally conributing useful swim info. I expect the noise ratio to decrease as I get a couple of tris under my belt

Ah Pinkboy. I, like you, have now taken the plunge into Slowtwitch hell. I’m not quite sure why after reading the Seinfeld thread!!

My problem on logging in is that somebody here is already known as Garf (my moniker at Trannies). Fare thee well in the domain of the Slowman, as guarded by Tibbs, Demerley et al.

By the way, I can also vouch for Pinkbit’s Pinkness, having seen him at IMOZ03/04.
