I have read all of the documentation on ST on bike fitting and all of the information seems to makes sense. I would like to have this implemented by a good bike fitter.
Is it safe to say that all FIST certified bike shops are truly reputable bike fitters?
It would help to know where you are at. And YES - you can presume that if a shop has spent the time wiht Dan to FIST their patrons, they will give you a good ride when you hook up.

I would argue No, but you could call me biassed. FIST is a process, and the quality of the fit is going to be based more on the Fitter than on the process they use. The FIST certified list is certainly a great place to start looking, but I’d also ask for recommendations from other local triathletes.

Are all doctors who passed med school good doctors? Are all lawyers who passed law school good lawyers? Of course not, but they all have the same diplomas hanging on the wall.
All a FIST certification means is that somebody took the course. That in itself doesn’t mean they’re necessarily a good bike fitter, but it is a place to start to look.

The medical analogy would better if it were like: are all board certified doctors better than non board certified ones (not just ones who graduate - especially with the rash of immigrant physicians/oversees med schools - no offense meant). Maybe - they did take the extra step and have at least that extra degree of certification. Same with a F.I.S.T. fitter. My LBS (Wheelie Fun) was great before Bob Duncan went up there, but he did anyway. Just like non board certified docs/specialsts maybe just fine (but I wouldn’t go to one)

the truest thing i can say is that the great, great majority of really good tri bike fitters in north america have been to our workshop. but not everybody who’s been to our workshop is a really good tri bike fitter.
many of the shops that have been here are quasi-good at fitting, and many of them would agree to this. some of the very best fitters i know don’t fit people for a living. they are the manufacturers who come to these workshops.
by the way, there is a BIG update coming this week to what it is you’ll read on tri bike fit on the slowtwitch website.
I was fitted by a FIST certified fitter, and the first thing I did when I got home was drop the front end 3cm, the seat 1cm, and move the seat back 1cm. WAY more power/faster/more comfortable. So… I think it helps to have a FIST fitter, but definitely depends on the fitter.
because he sucked. I tried to tell him I could go lower multiple times, but he just wanted to finish the fit. Like my point was, if you have a good fitter willing to take the time, fist is great. If you have a fitter who isn’t good or experienced or willing to take the time… that fitter can be a waste of time.
find someone who knows you and that you trust, don’t get FIST fitted just to get FIST fitted.
