That is exactly why Hillary would never get my vote, even if I agreed with her positions on the issues. At some point, integrity must be restored to the office.
Sigh. That’s a completely disturbing article. Accurate, but disturbing. If this wasn’t still the best damn country the world has ever seen I would weep for the future.
Now, back to talk radio. That will fix things.
No, the ‘‘Fairness Doctrine’’ will fix things! ![]()
“What about all the Republican politicians who defied public sentiment and insisted that President Clinton be impeached for lying under oath about his affair with Monica Lewinsky? Many of them now minimize Libby’s perjury.
What about all those Democrats who thought public shame was punishment enough for Clinton lying under oath, basically the position adopted today by Libby’s supporters? Many of those Democrats now think Libby should go to jail for his perjury.”
BBBBBBBB…BBBB…BBBBB…UUUUU…TTTT…C L I N T O N … !!!
Dude, its a story about the hypocrisy on both sides, Repub and Dem. Your whole “but Clinton” BS has zippo to do with the story. Are you that blind that you can’t admit that the Dems are as hypocritical as anyone else?

It doesn’t sum up the Libby situation at all. it mentions Libby in the first sentence and them goes on to attack the Clintons for 15 paragraphs.
The article may have some veracity, but it has nothing to do with the Libby situation.
Well, actually, the article uses Libby’s name 12 times, from the beginning to the very end.
I am not surprised it didn’t register through your filters though.

Art, did the article tell you more about the Libby situation or the Clintons? the article mentions the Clintons 12 times and they have absolutely NOTHING to do with the “Libby situation”.
Its another B…B…B…but Clinton rant.
Like I said, the article might have a lot of truth, but it tells me nothing about the Libby situation, why he was convicted, and why his sentence was commuted. Its standard partisan finger pointing.
Note that I didn’t say it was about the Libby commutation. I said, and the title of the thread reads, that its about the controversy surrounding the commutation. The article was, and is, about hypocrisy on both sides. Pure and simple. Its not a “but Clinton” rant. Are you completely incapable of admitting that both sides generally suck?

I’m more than capable of admitting that lots of people on all sides of the political spectrum suck. President Clinton did some pretty shamless sleazy things during his 8 years and in particular in his final months with the slew of questionable pardons he issued to friends and relations. But overall he was a good President and had he not been the victim of a trumped up impeachment witch hunt he would probably have gone down as one of our most popular Presidents ever.
George W. Bush on the other hand has not been a good President on any level, way shape or form. And his commutation of Scooter Libby’s prison sentence and the soon to be pardon of Libby are on a far different level from any of Clinton’s influence peddling with Marc Rich et al. Bush conspired to pervert the course of justice and designated Libby to be the fall guy, albeit guaranteeing him that he’d never see the inside of a prison cell and that he would be pardoned when the time was right. Using the executive power of pardon to cover for one’s own criminal behavior makes Clinton look like a choirboy by comparison.
The article is not a reflection of anything. A reflection is an accurate facsimile, and this is a huge distortion. it is a huge distortion of the facts and the gravity and circumstances of the misdeeds of Clinton and Bush.
I can’t wait until there’s a new Democratic president in the White House and we’ll never again have to hear the “But Clinton” knee jerk. Please God Hillary doesn’t win for that reason and that reason alone. I don’t think I could take another 4 years of this.
It wasn’t an article about the Libby case. It was about the hypocrisy surrounding commentary on the Libby case.
The first hint was the title: Hypocrisy abounds on all sides of the Libby case.

I was rebutting Spot’s assertion that the article summed up the Libby controversy. It does not. It attempts, as you say, to compare the Libby sentence commutation to pardons Bill Clinton issued and does so badly.
I quote:
The Libby case followed the same pattern of hype and hypocrisy established during Clinton’s impeachment scandal. It’s as if we’re all sentenced to relive the same sad scene:
No it didn’t. The two cases were very different. Libby lied about matters relating to treason, Clinton lied about a blow job.
A powerful man lies or otherwise does wrong.
Yeah, Clinton lied about the blow job, but can you really compare marital infidelity to outing a covert CIA agent as political revenge for not going along with the lies the President told in his State of the Union address?
He gets caught.
The one accurate assertion in the article.
His enemies overreach in the name of justice.
In Clinton’s case most definitely. Trying to run a President out of office for cheating on his wife is definitely an over reach. Trying to get to the bottom of a conspiracy that goes to the very top of our Government and which ultimately got us into a foolish and unnecessary war that has cost 4000 American lives…not an over reach. You can’t reach far enough in circumstances such as this.
His friends minimize the crime in pursuit of self-interest.
Well the Neocon barking heads have definitely tried to downplay Scooter’s misdeeds, luckily a jury of his peers and a judge knew better. I don’t recall anyone on the Democrat downplaying the blowjob to a quick grope.
The article does sum up the Libby controversy. If the article summed up the Libby case, the title of the thread would likely be “I think this sums up the Libby case.”
If there was ever a time for the Clinton’s to just shut up, this was it. They just can’t help themselves.
And his commutation of Scooter Libby’s prison sentence and the soon to be pardon of Libby are on a far different level from any of Clinton’s influence peddling with Marc Rich et al.
No, its probably closer to allowing the Chinese to buy the 1996 election and the easing of tech transfers following the election. Of which I have about the same amount of proof as you do that there was a conspiracy with Libby and the Plame affair. I’m still confused how you get from Armitage being the actual leaker to some Bush “perversion of justice” theory. Do tell…

No, its probably closer to allowing the Chinese to buy the 1996 election and the easing of tech transfers following the election. Was this before or after he murdered Vince Foster? Spot **Scooter Libbiy lied to protect someone. I know enough about politics and how administrations work to know that he didn’t lie to cover for a subordinate. Shit always flows downhill. ** **** So that leaves his superiors, namely Dick Cheney and George Bush. He was Chief of Staff to the VP and Advisor to the President. I have no proof of a conspiracy, but it doesn;t take a rocket scientist to see one.
Yep, your guys are always clean and the Repubs are always dirty. Its pretty predictable with you, actually. The second that Bush commuted Libby’s sentence, you were all over posting it here. Yet there was nothing but silence from you with the Jefferson indictment. Do you really believe that you are unbiased?
Spot
I think I already said that President Clinton did a lot of sleazy stuff during his Presidency. I think I already agreed with you that there are plenty of unsavory characters on all sides. I don’t think Jefferson’s indictment warrants comment other than he’s a crook, he’s guilty and he deserves to go to jail.
Anything else?
Sure…since Armitage was the leaker, what is that you think Libby is covering up? This is the part I don’t get…

Just did a little internet research, and there is a lot more to the Asian campaign funds than you are trying to imply. Many people were convicted, completely unlike the Vince Foster murder fantasy.
