Ordered some custom Flak Jackets about two weeks ago, they finally came yesterday. Notice the box has sort of a big dent in it, weird. Then notice that the white FedEx label that Oakley placed across a seam of the box has obviously been cut in order to open the box after it had been sealed, and a clear piece of packing tape has been used to (hastily) reseal the box, the one end of the packing tape was all bunched up and not even smoothly applied to the box.
Called Oakley before doing anything, they said to open the box. The black Oakley box inside the carboard box was also dented in a similar fashion. But the glasses come in a hard case. However, these we either a sloppy pair of Oakleys or something had been done or had happened to them. Typically, I find the arms either want to lock open, or be completely closed. On these, in the open position, the arms had a significant amount of play in them, about 1cm on 1 side and .5cm on the other. So if you held the glasses by the nose bridge and the arms were in the open position, they would sort of flop inward a bit. Also, the ear socks didn’t really seem to fit the frame very smoothly. But the colors were all correct, black and gray, lenses looked right, G30.
Oakley wanted me to send them back for them to look at, then if they were OK, they would return them to me, if not, I’d get a new pair. I said, after waiting 2 weeks, I wasn’t going to wait for the glasses to get back to Oakley and then back to me. Furthermore, whether they had been switched or damaged, something had obviously happened to them and I didn’t want this pair. I flat out told them that I would not accept the fact that they might return this pair to me, mostly because of the issue with the arms.
The rep went away for a while, came back, said he’d send me a label to mail mine back and that they would build me a new pair and overnight them. Very good response so kudos to Oakley for that even if it took me putting my foot down.
But, what the heck happened to my glasses? Switched in the mail? Dropped/crushed somewhere in house at Oakley and opened up to inspect before mailing them out? Really a weird situation, I can’t imagine a scammer intercepting the box, switching out mine for some fakes with all the right colors and then selling mine. I have no idea.
