I think I have short arms (Wetsuit Fit)

Every wetsuit I have tried on seems to result in a little bunching in the arm pit area. When I raise my arm above my head the suit smoothes out. Is this okay? If I size down the suits just dont fit.

thanks

I’m no expert as you can see from my last wetsuit post (do a search). But I just picked up a 2XU elite, based on the discussions had in my post, and I do not have any bunching in the arm pit areas. I have had that situation in a past suit but not the 2XU. I think it has a lot to do with the type/thickness of the material used in these areas and the ability of the materials to hold some sort of shape while still allowing proper movement of arm and shoulder. Also check out Demerly’s article on wetsuit fit if you’re concerned about what to worry about in a wetsuit fitting properly and what to give up in improper fit.

The suit I think fits me the best is the B70 Helix. It could be that the blue material in shoulders is so flexible it is cauing the problem. I need to swim in it to see how it feels.

  1. You are close to getting the right fit when you raise your arms straight over your head and the material in the arm-pit area is lying smooth and flat against the skin of your arm-pit. This will allow maximal range of motion for the shoulder joint and the arms.

  2. If you feel the arms are too long, with some wetsuits, you can trim the arms shorter, but ONLY within the fabic tape that goes over the seams. You can do this with all Nineteen suits, but I have seen the design in the wrist area of a few other brands that would be a challenge to trim shorter. If you need to cut beyond the range of the fabic tape, you will need to purchase some fabric tape from a fabric shop then apply this to the exposed seam(s) with wetsuit glue, then make the cut.

Hope this helps.

Your suit is the only one I didn’t try on. Couldn’t find anyone near me that carries them.
Thanks for the advice.
