First, a big thanks to the guys at Get a Grip Cycles here in Chicago, as well as the regional Orbea rep. Jason, Kevin, Adam, Matt, and many others at Get a Grip helped me make this decision. Mike from Orbea along with Jason made it happen. So thank you guys!
My team mates have a couple Orbea Alma’s on the way, I can’t wait to bring them all together! Again, Get a Grip and Orbea have been great in the process, and I can’t say enough about them.
It’s not completely built yet, but here are the specs:
Orbea Oiz
Fox RP23
Reba Team
Full X.9 (shifters, front and rear der.)
Avid Juicy 7 brakes
FSA cranks
DT Swiss 240s wheels
Sorry the picture is so big…but this is my new baby!!

The only comment is blank? Humor me! This is my new baby!!!
Its a sweet ride for sure but am I the only one who noticed no grips??? Is this the new trend in mtn biking that I am unaware of?
HA…well did you see that there are no shifters or cables? I haven’t finished the build yet. Ran out of time last night and couldn’t find my housing cutters…today it’s getting completed!
Wow Brandon, sweet ride but if you got it to Mel McQ your timing’s lousy as she has just moved to BMC! ;-). Beautiful looking bike, I have my PF carbon HT in the garage waiting for my collarbone to repair well enough to get her built before getting out and riding it. Give your OO a good hard ride and don’t forget to report back.
I talked to Mel for 10 min or so in Pelham. I also got to give her BMC hard tail a nice look-over. That’s a killer bike! I had a BMC FourStroke 02 last year that was nice, but one size to small; I just couldn’t get comfortable on my BMC. Maybe a size larger and it would have been sweet!
Love it ! I have almost all X.9 that I beat the crap out of. Its amazing how durable SRAM stuff is.
The blue Michelins XC’s are a nice touch.
Get some mud on that soon.
Sweet ride. I’ll hit Palos with you after IMLP. I won’t be able to keep up so be kind and wait for me when we get there.

“I won’t be able to keep up”
HA HA…now that’s funny!!
But you’re always welcome to come along. The guys and I are racing in Michigan this weekend, then we have a couple DINO races in Indiana. I’m going to be spending the next 12 weeks working on my run as much as I can…that’s my weakest link…well that and my bike! But hopefully this new ride will carry me to some faster times!
I am serious. I have been on my MTB once in three years. Getting to old and chicken shit to go all out on it. MY bike probably weights in at another 20 lbs over yours.
Old Klein Mantra.
See you around
Looks sweet and looks extremely fast. How much travel does it have (and do you want for Xterra)?
I have been riding the Mt Bike almost exclusively recently and would like to race a bit this summer. Riding a Blur XC at the moment and think it might have a bit too much travel for racing and not enough for a lot of the stuff I want to be riding. Good all around bike but I’m told Xterra isn’t too technical.
Congrats on the sick new ride!
“How much travel does it have (and do you want for Xterra)”
The REBA comes set up with 80mm in the front (can be changed to 100mm which I plan on doing. The rear has 85mm of travel with the Fox RP23.
For XTERRA it really depends on the course, but from what I have seen you won’t need more than 3-4" on any course, most would be fine on less travel for most races. They aren’t super technical, but it sort of depends on the rider and course how much travel is best.
With that said, I’ve heard the Blur XC pedals REALLY efficiently which is the biggest downside to more travel IMO. If your bike pedals well with more travel it won’t cost you much.
Anyway, the Blur XC would be fine, but so would a lot of other bikes. Just enjoy the plush-ness of the Blur and come into T2 feeling refreshed since you weren’t beat up on a HT.
Nice bike, now finish it up and go out and get it dirty!
Just one thing though. Why use a flat bar and so many spacers? Wouldn’t you be better off with a riser bar and less spacers?
“Why use a flat bar and so many spacers? Wouldn’t you be better off with a riser bar and less spacers?”
I’m not sure if that would make a difference, but it hasn’t been possible to fit myself to it until it’s finished. I may or may not change those things around once I get a couple rides in. It’s just built with the stuff that came with the bike (the flat bar and spacers).
