I swam with OSU, UMich, PSU and NW today

Ohio state has an amazing aquatic facility. A leisure pool for kids and adults to play and relax in, a six lane 25 yard lap pool, an eight lane 25 yard lap pool and a massive 50m pool.

During swim season they divide the 50m pool into two 25yrd pools, and they let students, faculty and staff swim in them during certain hours.

Today I showed up to swim and noticed a couple OSU swimmers getting in a unscheduled swim. This quickly turned into about a half dozen OSU swimmers zipping past me on either side. By the time I was wrapping up my workout the Michigan, Penn State and Northwestern teams were all taking up a few different lanes prepping for tomorrows meet.

It was pretty cool to share a pool with some great athletes. Much like the feeling I imagine age groupers get racing along side the pros. The other funny thing was that I hold my own in fitness to probably 95% of the population, but for that hour was completely humbled!

Agree. I’ve worked at OSU for a year now and was thinking recently that I would be very disappointed if I suddenly couldn’t use the pools anymore.

I was swimming the weekend of the Grand Prix meet in the spring and Gary Hall Jr. (two time 50 m Olympic gold medalist) was standing on the deck of the 8 lane lap pool stretching. It would have been a real mix of humility and awe if he would have jumped in the lane next to me. I don’t know what I would have done if he had wanted to share my lane. Probably do a 50 then get out.

Ohio has great swimming in general. Miami Ohio also has a phenomenal facility.

Haha, I’ve felt pretty humbled as well swimming at Northern Arizona University’s pool alongside national teams from all over, especially leading up to the Olympics. Hell, they blow by me on their cooldowns. It is nice that they have 50m lanes set up for them right now though.

Yeah, well - never rubbed off on me when I moved here … :frowning:

Even smaller colleges like Kenyon and Willmington do have stellar facilities. Odd in that I never heard of this before moving here though.
