I read where im Korea had a total prize pool of $200k

Anyone know how this was broken down? Not a bad payday, I suspect, for Olaf and Raynard and the others compared to most the other races that day.

Details are on the race site I believe.

My buddy, Scott Green, won it last year, I didn’t ask him… but his payday was well over $20k I think.
The winner get’s the top prize in three categories… something to do with your nation…

Smart pro’s should do this race… much better chance of actually making money from racing it…

I looked. I couldn’t find it.

I agree about the “smart pros”, especially when you looked at the field. Small and not a lot of top tier people (at least that I recognized), especially amongst the women.

Here it is, not as much as I though… but still more than the usual pot:
http://www.ironmanlive.com/events/ironman/korea/standard-chartered-bank-sponsors-the-nations-challenge

$15k for the win
$1250 for winning your region
$1250 for winner of all regions.

So… $17500 for overall male and female… if I have it right.

Plus… invited pro’s get flight, hotel, etc… paid for by SCB… not a bad deal!

I think Synchro’s listed website might be from last year - try this one from the official IMK website:

http://www.ironmankorea.net/eng/info/index.jsp (under: information, nations challenge). For example, this year they offered $5000 for winning a region. I have a good friend who was in the pro mix and won a region, so was interested in looking it up. Most people in the top 10 get 3 kinds of prize money - not bad!

Note: they earned it - apparently VERY hard conditions…

I checked into the race. They did not offer anything unless you were a top tier top. So, you had to front about $2k to get there plus expenses and entry. Race conditions are rediculous there as well. Most of the top 10 go about an hour faster on a fast course. They also did not announce the prize purse until the end of July.

As it worked out, it would have been a good payday for a North American athlete, but unless you were getting your way paid, it was a big gamble to go there and race on less than peak fitness.

I would guess more will show from N.A. next year if they keep the prize purse.

Yes, that link on ironman live that was just showing swim results now shows complete results.

Thanks for the link. Does anyone know what this statement at the end of the page means?

“SCBIM KOREA Overall Prize Money is subject to the then current WTC Redistribution Formula, including the 10% Rule.”

if you don’t finish within 10% of the second place time you don’t get any money and they take unawarded money and distribute it proportionally amongst the top finishers inside the cutoff.
