I ran today.... 1st time since 2-10-07

A little drizzle and chilly (for AZ) but my first run in almost a year since accident of Feb 10, 2007. Was struck and run over by a car (tire tracks on both legs) and a nasty open (yuk) compound fracture of tib-fib (in about 10 pcs, you should see the X-ray!). Two plates in leg, two surgeries, 88 visits to Endurance Rehab (thanks Bill T) … I can run again… sort of… limited to 15 mins, on treadmill or dirt, with an uncomfortable leg brace but hey it is better than the alternative… I look more like a crab trying to escape a seagull than a marathoner but I can say “I ran today” for the firt time in 11 + months. Nice…

I can swim ok and cycle, running is the last thing to come back. My endurance is crap, my stroke is worse than it was which was crappy… but considering the view from under the truck I’m glad to be alive and still doing what I love…

congrats dude, good luck with your comeback…but…

…pics or it didn’t happen! C’mon you know you want to…

:open_mouth:

Good on ya.

Been through a tough accident/rehab myself a few years back so I’m with you the whole way.

GOOD FOR YOU MAN!! Good luck with the comeback!!

Whatever, doesn’t kill you (and the accident didn’t) will make you stronger.

+1

I keep meaning to digitize all my xrays but haven’t quite gotten around to it.

Your prep going well?

Your prep going well?

Yeah, pretty well thanks. Big weeks taking their toll now though (tired, stir-crazy, etc). How 'bout yourself? I saved your blog a while back, could do with an update…

Congrats. Not many people have the will or desire to do what you already accomplished. Keep going strong.

Good for you. It’s hard to come back. You can do it, we’re all behind you here. I remember your OP about the accident… glad to hear you’ve turned the corner.

Hey, that’s awesome! Glad you are healing, and happy running.

Wow that’s great. Congratulations. Keep up the good work and let us know about your progress.

Great job, and way to keep moving forward!!

That’s great. It’s not that much fun at first, but it’s the best feeling that I know of to be able run even if you <>. You may never get back to the good years, but it’s still a great feeling.
With all that surgery and plates you have to have enough titanium to join the Team Ti. Let us know.

sweet.

Neitchze was a moreon…

to the OP, congrats man…congrats…that is tres cool.

It’s Nietzsche, and I think in many ways he’s on the mark.

Glad your back, enjoy your running!!!

Good on ya. You are now running on the ‘recovery trail’. Slow and steady and you will get back.

thanks to all for the comments and good wishes… here’s my latest idea… I’m “allowed” by my phys therapist to run 15 - 20 mins slowly on the treadmill or dirt road (@about 15 min/ mile pace). I see him next week, I want to see if by February 10, the 1 year anniversary of the accident, if I can run (and maybe walk a little) for 40 minutes or so… following the route I took the day I was hit.

I went out the door at 10, ran an easy 4 miles or so and was a mile or less from home when the guy knocked me down… so I never finished my run… On the one year anniversary, I will start and finish that exact run, including running right past and over the exact spot where I was hit.

Might help some of my fear and bad memories. A nice therapeutic/ resolution of a traumatic year, don’t you think?

Mmm. Sounds like that would give you some ‘closure.’
