I noticed that the recent Coeur d’Alene Ironman

I noticed that the recent Coeur d’Alene Ironman in the 45-49 age group that it appears the first two folks in that age group don’t have an Ironman emblem next to their name and results. Does that mean they declined their trip to Hawaii and it actually rolled down to 10:35 time? It looks like about 6 slots. It appears that the last 3years at 10:35 that age group took a kona spot. I appreciate any help you might have in this area. I did 11:05 in Coeur d’Alene. I would like to possibly shoot for kona in 06

I know that Jeff Cuddeback who finished 2nd in the 45-49 age-group did not take a spot to Kona - the first guy must not have also. Z

That’s right. Often, in most of the larger age groups, at least one or two slots will roll down. Some of those folks already went in previous years and don’t feel the need to go again, others never wanted to in the first place. You can’t count on it but sometimes you are close enough to benefit.

The hotel we stayed in had a top ten finisher in the 30-34 and he, as an elite marathoner, only wanted to do an IM once. He did (AND HOW!), and that was it. Mission accomplished, let the slot go.
