I need to go camping!

I live in South Orange County CA and I NEED TO GET AWAY!

I would prefer full hookups with an 8 hour drive. (I know, full hookups isn’t REALLY camping… Hey, I have 2 little kids, anything that makes life easier out in the wild works.)
The kids can do up to a 3-4 hour hike depending on difficulty.

I want to go in spring, prefer warm weather… any suggestions?

MOAB Ut. Check it out great weather national parks and many great hikes and bike rides. Just dont go over Easter weekend. Jeep safari unless your into that

I will take a look, thanks Kona. Last year I did Bryce Canyon and loved it! Great camping, hiking.

Any other great local camping spots?

Yosemite. Your kids will freak when they see climbers ascend El Capitan.

Just remember that Yosemite can be COLD in the spring. Speaking as someone who made that mistake thinking that all places in California - it was my first trip - would undoubtably be warm in May. Cold cold cold cold. One of the entrances was still closed due to the snow. Amazing trip and loved every minute of it but also distinctly remember freezing my a$$ off.

How far is the south rim of the grand canyon from LA? Is that warm in the spring?

Dude, at the rate that the big O is trying to bankrupt our country, we all may be camping on a permanent basis sooner rather than later. I don’t think full hookups will be part of the deal though.

Spring and warm implies desert. Joshua Tree usually has great weather in April, not too hot, not too cold. Or you could try Zion. Grand Canyon and Bryce are both on the cold side for the spring.

If you don’t want desert and it doesn’t need to be too warm, I would suggest central and northern California coast. Montana de Oro State Park near San Luis Obispo is a lot of fun. Normally I would look at Big Sur, but the fires last year really did a number on the park.

Yosemite is hit or miss in the early Spring, but the valley is only at 4000 ft, so the weather usually isn’t that bad. May is the best month to visit the valley. The weather is warmer, the waterfalls are at their peak and the summer crowds haven’t really hit.
