Hey Folks, I would like your opinions on which bike case to buy. I am looking for a case that would hold one bike and one set of wheels along with a little bit of gear if possible. I more than likely will be sending the case via ground/air shipping such as FedEx or UPS. These are the cases I am looking at:
1st trip to Ironman New Zealand used a Pedal Pack deluxe. When I got my bike back after the race it had been dropped so hard the teeth on the large chainring were bent, the case was ruined and the Airlines replaced it.
2nd overseas trip was with a Tri-All-3 case. Difficult to manage and the bike also was returned to me damaged. Airline would not pay claimed the case while legal to fly was too large for proper handling and therefore they were not responsible.
3rd and all the rest using a Trico Ironcase. No damage, took this case to Australia, China, and Mexico in every case no damage to the case or the bike. For me I have found the best one now.
I’ve used practically every case on the market including two of those you mentioned. There is only one case worth having and it is made by SCI-CON. It is more expensive than others but worth it esp if your bike is expensive/fragile.
I bought the TriAll Sports bike case …custom which holds one bike, one set of wheels and some gear. Very very happy with the case and it has carried my bike to two races so far via airlines with no damage at all to the bike, or wheels or contents. Of course part depeneds upon how you pack but they have a great case and it is very tough. I think well worth it…pricey at $439 but heck…if you’re bike is worth anything…like couple of grand or more than its worth it.
I bought the compact velo Tri all three sports case.
I just used it this past week for the Florida 1/2IM and I had no problems with it. I have used the trico case and it was fine but I like the compact velo. I wanted the larger custom size but if you ever send your bike UPS it is over three times the cost because of the size. More of an issue is fitting it into my car etc… I think the compact is a little more practical. I liked how the bike wasn’t all squished together like the trico case and the triall3 has a metal frame around the middle that makes it quite strong when they through a ton of bags over the top. I think with either one you should be fine, I like the triall3 better but I suspect the trico will probably last longer
