So, my relay’s cyclist does not speak any English they tell me. I was wondering if there are any triathletes in the Las Vegas area that are billingual and are interested in helping out in a translator role. I speak a little bit of Spanish, but I’m not confident enough to act as a translator, especially when Spanish is spoken too quickly as it always is. Compensation is negotiable depending on the amount of feedback I get. Thanks,
Hey John, Dan speaks spanish, at least enough to get a sporting point across. We will both be out there on Sat., probably near the transition area. Don’t know if that is soon enough for you, but as a last resort maybe?? How’s your fitness??? THink it will be a small group off the front, or a breakaway from some open water stud??? I threw your name into a hat of other swimmers a few weeks ago, for a relay that someone was trying to put together with Norman. He has opted to let it go, a real shame. It would have been great for him to stay in shape, and do an all out tt against Tyler and the other bike racers…Is your rider a pro cyclist???
I believe Hernan is flying in on Thursday, so I might need someone sooner than that. If I can get someone for the entire time, that would be preferrable. Otherwise, we’ll be winging it. My fitness is ideal at this point. Last week, I did 3X3000s SCM on 35:30. Fastest one was 34:08. I’ve done a lot of long free sets SCY holding 1:00-1:01 for long periods. This week, I’ll be cutting back a little. I only know a few of the guys in the race. From the guys I know, it should be myself, Mark Warkentin, and Scott Kaufmann. I was expecting more pool guys, but these are all OW guys, and they happened to be the only 2 Americans to beat me in the 25K nationals this year. They are both tough, but there really shouldn’t be a big gap one way or the other. If there is a long run at the end, then I may have an advantage there. Our rider is one of the top guys from Mexico. I am told that he should be able to hang with Tyler as he’s in great shape. It should be an awesome race to watch.
All you have to memorize and repeat is: “Montar 112 millas tan rápidamente como puedes!”
Roughly translates to… Ride 112 miles as fast as you can!

Monty…will you guys be sticking around for the race?
"Our rider is one of the top guys from Mexico. "
Dude… Hernán Darío Muñoz is el Colombiano, like Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll (aka Shakira)… not Mexicano, like Salma Hayek Jiménez ![]()
Mark Warkentin…haven’t heard that name in 5-10 years. I really hope he does not still wear his speedo riding so friggin high. We used to call him “hijacker”, cause his suit would run so high…ahhh good old times as a teenager passing time at swim meets.

Not only are we sticking around, we are doing live coverage of the race for ST. I will also be voluntering my services as a draft marshall for the bike on the relay, so we will be all over the place. Paul Thomas is also coming out with us to help spot on the course, so it should be a good time had by all this weekend…

I see the weather for Saturday is scheduled to be mostly cloudy with a high of 70. Sounds like perfect weather for a sub-8 as the mostly cloudy should keep the winds down, which I hear is a problem on this course.
All he needs to know is: Venga! Venga! Venga!
Yes, that’s my fault. I was originally told that he was Mexican, but when I looked up results I found that he was Columbian. Thanks for the Shakira analogy, otherwise, I would have been lost.
Monty,
I am hoping that the live coverage is somehow stored on ST so that I can read up on the race later. Also, if people would keep a good running thread going on the forum, with lots of posts and lots of comments, that would also be great. I think I prefer the ST concurrent race threads over everything else, (except the live feed whichI don’t get without broadband).

We’d all be lost without Shakira ![]()
