Does anyone remember the length of Panama City Beach’s (Ironman Florida -November) bike course? I seem to recall that it was a few miles over 112 (like 117) because of the single loop format OR was that just in the year I did it because of construction? Anyone know? Any odometer readings or GPS/TopoSoftware info?
I did it in 2001, 2002 and 2003 and as far as a remember it was within a tenth or two on my computer. I don’t recall any post-race talk of it being long any of those years either.
I did IM Lake Placid and IM Florida in 2000. My bike computer read 112 miles at the end of LP and 114 at the end of FL. I did IMFL again in 2001 and the bike course had changed a little bit. We made a different turn heading out of town. Also my computer read 112 miles in 2001.
I’ve completed imf every year since started in 1999.
I recall couple years(early years) was long one to two miles I used old garmin III gps with maps couple times. But since they changed course and put the out and back in midway it’s been pretty much dead on last few years within tenths 112 miles.
Thanks gholms and IronRod! This seems to explain why I remember the course being long in 2000. Glad to hear that they changed it and made it ~112 instead of ~114. I assume it is about the same difficulty. How bumpy is the road overall? What tires/PSI do you suggest?
Sure you’re not talking about GFT? It was exactly 117 miles one year, either 2001 or 2002. Related to a course change. When I did IMF in 2003, it was dead-on 112.
