I´m in Alpe d´Huez!

…just wanted to drop that piece of information here:)
I´m in my bibs just minutes away from dropping down the screaming climb to turn around at the bottom and doing my best Lance-imitation getting back up.
I´m even contemplating to back it up with a run but that might change. I´m on vacation after all…

By bibs, you mean suspenders?? Photos would be nice!

vacation? or perhaps a book-signing tour…

You really “in” it - or on it?

Hey Jonas, how was the ride? I rode up on a mtb back (in 99?) when Pantani won the stage, hard work for both of us

Good t osee your English is better than anu and IMBuckeye’s. To be fair to IMB he probably assumed you meant the mountain and not the village, but suspenders? Come on!

Hey Anu, I thought you were racing in Korea this weekend? I guess you are done…hope it went well.

Jonas, we want an Alpe D’Huez TT time or your presence there is totally poser. Every STer who goes to that mountain must do a timed climb of the mountain.

Hope you are having fun. If I can get my act together, I am hoping that I can rent a house in Bourg d’Oisins at the Base of Alpe D’Huez at the end of next May and host a bunch of dudes from around the world for an 8 day ride till ya drop training camp. It would be cool to have a celebrity appearance by the Swedish doods.

Dev, Korea is August 26th. I have it from the horse’s mouth that this would be too much to shoot for, given that I am literally fat and out of shape and it has rained for three days straight here. We are in the middle of the monsoon!! Training (in the usual case) is hard enough… but now, whatever plugs into the wall is also not working (treadmills, trainers) because of our infamous, rolling blackouts.

Im totally bloddy confused about doing this race. It seems like the only way I will train because I am mentally tired being indoors for 12 months, straight, with one unsuccessful camp for about 3 weeks, out of here.

But then I think of Jonas and the other awesome boys Ive met and think, “gotta stay slim to stay in the game”.

sigh

Damm these high-carb hydration alternatives titled “beer”.

I´ll tell ya, that was a hard climb! Not very long but for someone on a French vacation with semi-low interest in training “evil hurt stuff” and furthermore slightly intoxicated by a steady diet of white bread, butter and jam, it was truly painful.
And yet, I didn´t ride it as a timed effort merely getting up the stupid mountain!

But OK, I did of course time it but I wasn´t sure of where the actual finish was so I went 49 minutes and change from the roundabout up to were I believe the finish is… And with an HR avg of 157 which is equal with busting-my-balls-riding had it been flat TT/triathlon.

And yes, this place is just amazing! Even more so with running which for me is much more attracting up here than riding which will always end up with riding that damn hill again… Anyhow, the runningtrails and the system for MTB is awesome and I´m heading out just now on a brisk 19 k run which I´m sure will have me busting my lungs once again.
And the pool is also accessible and ready to go for training. It doesn´t seem to hard to book lanes there and it´s a nice outdoor 25 metre right in the smack of the village. There´s also an indoor 25 but I haven´t checked it out.
So Dev, if you build it, I will come!

Is this the Anu I think it is?

If it is, what made you overcome your ST-aversion?

And how the hell is Pakistani Idol going:)

By bibs, you mean suspenders?? Photos would be nice!

Jonas, I decided to run for prime-minister and decided to get my political ambitions sorted out with Slowtwitch’s extreme wisdom on the meaning of life, the politics of age-groupers and such.

Pakistani idol is across the border. Different country entirely. They also have some fabulous musical talent.

Sounds like youre having fun! Ive just discovered marathon-shopping tonight… and after oh, 8 years away from anything resembling a mall, to BUY more crap I dont need, this was quite a lung-buster today. I may even run tommorow. Who knows…

Back to watch IM-LP… and perfect the art of living vicariously.
