I went to see “I Love You, Man” aka Bromance with my husband yesterday because we missed the 3:50 showing of Slumdog which I still haven’t seen yet. I had low expectations for this movie so I was surprised to find it somewhat poignant.
Men were generally portrayed like baboons with no social skills but the difference in this movie was seeing it from the male perspective. My favorite scene was where Paul Rudd (who couldn’t be more cute) is playing “air bass” and talking in an Irish accent and his fiancee keeps saying, “Stop doing that. Please, stop doing that” and it makes you love the male lead but have empathy for the female character too.
That’s what I liked about the movie. It had a male perspective that didn’t completely make women out to be bimbos. You don’t spend the entire movie wondering why the woman would be with that massive loser (like “Knocked Up”) because he isn’t a massive loser, he just needs a few friends and to quit with the accents. It felt more real than the current slop that gets put out for the male audience.
I think the movie would have been better without the over the top crass humor and projectile vomiting but I must not be the target market. A good date movie, I think. We enjoyed it.
