I love/hate Profile Design (pic)

I drove a half hour to the outskirts of Houston to begin my fourth outdoor ride on my new bike (see other post from this AM). Well what do you know? My PD aerobar pad is broken already. I turned around after fifteen minutes of riding and drove my cold butt back another half hour home. Can I replace this POS plastic arm pad holder with the metal/carbon ones from Oval?

this exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. My LBS that sold me the bike just gave me PD brackets that were metal and not the plastic ones that I broke. He just busted them out of a package of PD bars he had in the shop.

The Profile F22 armrests are metal instead of the POS plastic F19 brackets that came with my T2+'s. I haven’t broken mine yet, but they do feel too flexy when I ride. After seeing this post I’ll probably upgrade to the F22 kit. As an added benefit, the F22 pads look like you can adjust the rotation of the pad, which you can’t do on the F19.

Having your support fall out from underneath you is not a good feeling.

Um, yeah I can imagine  Hope you managed to stay upright. Here’s the link to the F22’s.

Are you aware if the tech used a torque wrench? I am only suggesting that before you decide to “love/hate” shouldn’t you know if this was a product or a “user” defect?

It would break at the bolts if it was torqued too much it would break somewhere no where near the bolts.

The crack may well have started under the bolt. Take another look.

No that’s what happened the first time I broke a plastic based pad mount. I made sure the crack didn’t originate at the bolt. It seems to have originated towards the front end of the pad.

And the other bad thing about Profile Design armrests is that the adheasive that holds the velcro to the armrest is too weak. Go up to any Profile Design pad and tear it off, and the velcro will come right up with it. You’d think at some point they would figure this out and get it fixed. Metal or plastic they have been like this for the last couple years.

Exactly. No velcro in the above photo.

Jimmy,

Come on in, and I will replace the old pads, with the new metal F22’s. I have them here at the shop.

James i was suprised by your first thread regarding the PD aerobars. I switched TO Vision from Profile for the same reason you did. I could get the arm pads wider while keeping the extensions narrow on the Vision better than I could with the Profile. The other thing I hated with the Profile was that the rests kept flopping down causing my elbows to slide off.

This happened to me a month before IMOO. I called Profile and they Fed-exed me a new one free of charge. If it happens again I will switch to the F22, but I have to give Kudos to Profile for taking care of me.
