I wouldn’t pay much attention to those who are responding based on a one-time ankle injury. Repeated ankle sprains/injury are not indicative of clumsiness or bad luck, but of loose tendons/ligaments. When you repeatedly roll your ankle, there is a good chance that the repeated injuries have made the ligaments/tendons loose to the point that they cannot protect your ankle from injury when it is mildly rolled. No shoes or amount of strength training will prevent another injury. Depending on the severity of the condition, surgery may be required to correct the problem. I made the mistake of not telling my foot doctor about my history of repeated ankle rolling, assuming that it was my clumsiness. After I mentioned it during an appointment it took one quick stress x-ray for a diagnosis and surgery shortly thereafter. Surgery was rather brutal, but amazingly successful. A small misstep that used to lay me off for a week or more is now a blip with no pain. See a doctor.
