seriously. this guy - and a few others like him - is an important link to a time when people could have lots of laughs in multisport. they could train hard, laugh at themselves, lay things down in a fierce way on the race course, and then have a great time at the post-race party. i haven’t seen beer at a post-race party since nationals in '98.
so to kenny: go out and kick some ass. take it to all those spreadsheet-using, watt-meter-reading, calorie-counting, show-up-4-hours-before-the-race-and-leave-immediately-afterward yuppies. and do it wearing a fluorescent pink speedo.
We need to get that beer back to the post race parties!!! Who was the pussy that did away with that?!?!?
I am going to round up some people in Vancouver that want to have some fun training for 2006 in a way different than the typical triathlete today. Yes, that’s right, no more eating earth muffins and yogurt after a cycle. I will be bringing back things like the Sunday donut ride where we ride 120km and stop at 3 donut shops along the way for a donut of choice.
In the fall I will be recruiting fellow Vancouverites (whether willing or not).
I just did a half marathon which featured a beer garden (free beer to racers) at the finish. Also, at mile 10, just before the hills to the finish, beer, margaritas and cheeseburgers were offered. And, no, I didn’t partake in those, but I did stop by the beer garden for a couple - 9:00 AM.
You guys are hanging out in the wrong country, doing the wrong races with the wrong people–and I mean that in the best way. An important race link to check out. www.xdogevents.com Always serving the best macro brew. As far as hanging out with the wrong people, our team has an annual beer mile at the end of the season. Another good link www.beermile.com. Canadians fill up the record books on beermile.com, but the Canadians on my team are weak. Our fastest (tri) guy is Canadian, but he SUCKS at the beer mile (13 minutes or so), something about growing up drinking Canadian whiskey- invalid excuse. He had to sprint to not get beaten by ALL the women on our team. I highly recommend the end o’ season beer mile.
You must of missed Nationals in 02 in Carlsbad. The post race party and awards was held in the brewpub that was on the course. They put out a lot of there beer they made in bottles for us to enjoy!!!
You really need to go to a worlds competition. I remember worlds in 00 in Calais, France. The post race awards party after the food they started given out bottles of wine. All these Europeans where just grabbing as many as they could hold :))

I know a few triathletes that ran at U of Oregon who have gone right around 5:00, just not in the record books. Our 1 year old team record is 7:14. It will get bettered this year.
