I am dead serious. I want this TdF to be a battle to the end. I dont know who (wont be Hamilton or Bobby)…but I hope someone steps up and goes round for round with Lance. I want the next King of the tour to have to tear it from Lances arms…not get it cause Lance is not there. I would love for a white knuckle time trial decision, or even a race decided at the final stage…into Paris. We know that if Lance is there this year, this is with out doubt the last…I wish all the glory of victory on whom ever can take it…and the agony of defeat on our champion Lance, his time has come - even Rome fell.
So, wait, are you rooting for Lance to lose or for le tour to be a good race? I have no problem with either happening, but I’d vote first for a good race, even if Lance came out the victor.

It seems to be hip to bash Lance, downgrade his accomplishments, and ignore what he has done for cycling and even our blessed sport. I still do not understand this; it’s like the typical liberal protestor that goes on and on about George W, yet doesn’t really know why he or she is doing so (that statement was neither a pro or con towards our President, just an example…no politics on this thread!)
Personally, I get a thrill of watching a fellow American stick it right in everyones faces each time he wins. I say let him win it 10 times!

Let there be no question that Lance is NOT the greatest of all time. I think that many other folks have a cycling resume that over shadows Lance’s by a large margin…I think that it is great that Lance has won, but if there is going to be a changing of the guard, let it be a battle - and yes I want him to loose. Like I said, we all know that he will not be there next year…him loosing is the only way that they next winner can have the full glory that it is to take the crown. I would rather win by winning than win by my competitor not showing up for the battle. If Lance is not there, the victor will always have people say “Well, Lance was not there”…blah, blah, blah…

well, I’m a Lance fan, but do believe that he is now in a loose loose situation with going for it again–here’s why:

if he wins, people will feel like he’s arrogant, and as though he’s trying to “hog the spotlight”. also it makes him look kind of like a jack ass–him going for 7 is over the top (I mean, we get it already)

if he looses everybody will smear it in his face and it will be as if the 6 never mattered. everyone will just remember that he went for 7 (like a jackass) and didn’t make it.
What I would have liked to see is him race (and preferably win) alot of other prestigious races.
It’s kind of like an Indy car driver who wins the Indy 500 10 times in a row, and doesn’t race anywhere else. I mean, that’s great, but what about the other races?
Lance is Lance, and he’s got an enourmous ego. What can one say? In the end though, I think he’s great and would like to see a bloody (well, not literally) fight to the end and have him win. That would be cool, and perhaps would make his victory seem more righteous than if he just shows up and kicks butt as if it were effortless.

Lance does have a huge ego. Much of that “ego” is confidence that is needed to compete at that level. Funny thing is, there are ego’s on this forum (and in general) that are 2x what his is, with a small percentage of his talent.
