I have to brag

My two kids (7 & 10) did their first triathlon yesterday - it was so awesome to see them out there having fun doing what I love to do. My daughter (10) was the very last person to finish the race - but I was so proud of her for sticking it out - even though it meant she walked the “run”.

Congratulations to both of them!

Thanks! The best was my son won a new, really nice bike in the post-race raffle!

Awesome.

I was a helper bee at Ironfish for River Cities Tri last week and had a wonderful time. The kids are so cute. Some brought their game faces and others were complete daisy darlings. My friend the race director asked me to ride the bike in front of the 1st bike rider to make sure we didn’t send the kids to the freeway or something. The course was an out and back loop. Everything went fine until about halfway home to my horror there was a pack of 20 or so 7-8ish year olds curb to curb coming at the leaders on the barbie bikes. I dismounted and shooed everyone to the right lane and continued on. The best part was the person leading the charge on the wrong side of the road was the RD’s daughter on her Barbie bike.

After the first bike was in T2 I went back to an uphill/downhill section to keep the right side/ left side thing straight on a fast/slow section and enjoy the race.

What a joy watching all those 250 kids out there having fun. Comment of the day. A bigger kid on a Tri bike with aerobars and Zipp wheels yelling “On your left” to a young “daisy” on a pink Barbie bike with streamers, with no reaction at all. They could have been on other planets as far as their spiritual connection or race experience that day. Same race different experience. What interesting insite into life. If we could only get so much out of life and races

I strongly advise all Slowtwitchers to volunteer at the kids races if you want to find enlightenment.

Way Cool! Congrats to them both!

Congratulations. Kids doing triathlon is something of the best there is. When mine (3 and a half and 6 and a half) did their first this summer it was real pride in their faces. And in mine. Be proud. Mine walked most of the run as well. Did not matter for them. Or me.
