Just wanted to share that. I’ve been spending a good bit of time in the Malaysian jungle and today was one close encounter too many. Last week it was a cobra 3 feet from my lightly shod feet. This week a spider the size of a tea saucer on my hat.
What I remember were the humungous millipedes. And the leeches that dropped down onto you from the leaves. And the scorpions. Our guide killed a cobra wham bam with his machete, no questions asked.
So I will ask – what are you doing in the rainforest?

We were in Borneo several years ago (Sarawak) and got invited to a long house by a guy we met on a boat going to Kapit i(I think that was the name of the town) the rivers and boats got smaller and smaller the further down the river we went. The generator worked from 6pm to 9 pm for lights and electricity. We ended up trying to rig up our mosquito net with the aid of headlamps. I looked up and saw a spider so big I swear I could see it winking at me. We ended up staying about 3 days at the longhouse helping the family fish and hunt. It was a very interesting experience but the spiders still give me nightmares
1 month staying with in laws. While wife is doing stuff with family I go hiking. I’m in Penang so it’s not some remote location, but the forests here as still full of creepy crawlies.
