I had a training partner that was shot with a paintball gun (got a deep muscle bruise and caused a number of problems) - pickup truck.
I had a training partner (female) that was slapped on the butt so hard it left a welt for days - pickup truck.
I knew another triathlete who was (for absolutely no reason, not that there is anything that could justify this) run off the road, had his bike grabbed from under him and flung into a cornfield and then was beaten so badly that he spent a week in the hospital - pickup truck.
Sometimes riding is dangerous, sometimes that is for entirely unacceptable reasons (human jackass-ness), and in the places that i have lived pickup trucks tend to be the offenders. Yes, anyone - even Prius and SmartCar drivers - can be a jackass; but for some reason that crowd in my experience tends to gravitate to pickups. And, it’s certainly not to say that all pickup truck drivers would just as soon run over a cyclist as give them ample room when they pass - plenty of really nice, cycling-friendly people drive pickups.
But when I hear a dually coming I still get as far over as possible…
