I got some play today

…in my headset (I think).

During my ride this afternoon, I noticed my fork has developed 1-2mm of play in it that wasn’t there before. Its definitely noticeable during breaking. I came home and checked everything I could (top cap, stem, etc) and everything is torqued to spec. Is this due to a lose starnut (I don’t have a starnut tool)? I looked through the Cane Creek manual, but that didn’t help much.

Info: '09 P2 with the standard integrated Cane Creek headset.

Thanks for any help.

Loosen the stem up, retorque the topcap, retorque the stem and you’ll be good.

The topcap is functionally unloaded once you’ve tightened down the stem–it’ll give you spurious readings.

I had the same thing happen to me on Sunday (Also a 2009 P2). Took it to my LBS and the wrench simply tightended down on my stem…

Interesting I have been noticing this lately as well, same deal 09 P2
.

Ahh, that fixed it. I was torquing things down in the wrong order. Thanks for the help.
