I just got a PowerTap 2.4 and i love it. Now that i got the “new fun” out of the way (put down 1039 max watts yesterday) i want to start using it for the real reason. I read much of Train with Power the Book. I have read the info on Functional threshold power and was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions or ideas how to train/race with power (I have one hub in a open pro mavic and also one in my zipp so i can race with it)
Any good websites for more info with training with power?
What watts do ya’ll race at for HIM?
p.s. i did do a search already and didn’t find much.
I think you’ll derive a great deal of the benefit of training and racing with power simply by paying attention to your #'s over time.
For my HIM watts I was aiming for 250-275 with my avg coming out to just over 250, for a split of 2:15 on a hilly course. That was my first half so I’d probably be shooting for a split of 2:10 next go round, which I’d estimate would be closer to 275-300 watts (or a faster course!).
I always encourage people to include the zeros. It isn’t like your body doesn’t notice them, it does.
On your question, there are tons of great threads on ST about racing with power and other things connected with power. You might want to search via a few of the frequent contributors such as lakerfan, Ashburn, Andrew Coggan, or myself. Those will get you started.
Endurance Nation recently offered 3 webinars on training and racing with a power meter. I believe they are going to offer these for sale pretty soon. I was a part of the series and I think they offered a great introduction to training and racing with power.
