I don't understand the weather forecast for Wisconsin tomorrow

weather.com predicts a high of 87 degrees with about 85 degrees by noon. The thing confusing me is that they have a 20% chance of precipitation but there is also a weather advisory for some kind of storm system coming through.

Do you guys have any additional weather info?

Here is the text from the advisory on weather.com now for Sunday, September 11. Does this affect the race area?:

A LOW PRESSURE AND ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WILL MOVE SLOWLY SOUTHEAST THROUGH SOUTH-CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS AFTERNOON.

SCATTERED CLUSTERS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE LOW PRESSURE AND COLD FRONT. THROUGH 330 PM…THE STRONGEST STORMS WILL MOVE EAST THROUGH MARQUETTE…GREEN LAKE…FOND DU LAC…AND SHEBOYGAN COUNTIES. OTHER STRONG STORMS WILL AFFECT PARTS OF COLUMBIA…DANE…AND JEFFERSON COUNTIES THROUGH 400 PM… ESPECIALLY IN THE AREA FROM BEAVER DAM TO COLUMBUS TO WAUNAKEE.

GUSTY WINDS TO 40 TO 50 MPH…HAIL UP TO 1/2 INCH IN DIAMETER…AND BRIEF HEAVY RAINS ARE POSSIBLE WITH ANY OF THE STORMS. ISOLATED STORMS CAN BECOME SEVERE AND PRODUCE LARGE…DAMAGING HAIL AND DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 60 MPH.

Don’t feel bad. I’ve lived in Wisconsing all my life and rarely understand the forecast.

That’s the first I’ve seen of bad weather, other than the heat and humidity. The counties listed cover most of southern Wisconsin. The race is in Dane county with Iowa county being to the west. I guess I’ll toss a light rain jacket in the bag. I’m just volunteering, but will be busy hauling dnf’s if the heat and humidity are as forecast. A cold front and a little sprinkle might be very welcome, but hail and high winds would be bad.

In Wisconsin in the late summer it is not uncommon to have afternoon thunderstorms because on hot days there is so much moisture in the air it just had to come down at some point. We’ve had two short thunderstorms this week in the afternoon and then the weather cleared up and was sunny again by 5pm.

we may have an afternoon storm tomorrow but it shouldn’t rain all afternoon. hopefully at least

What the internet is trying to tell you is that weather men really have no idea what tomorow will be like.

Here is the 24 hour aviation forecast for the region, the times are in GMT so for Wisconsin I think you subtract 6 hours so the last weather reference will be the start of the race.

Five stars… My take on this is the conditions will be warmish but favorable. The wind speeds seem light. Temperature a bit high but not very different from what everyone has been training in.

Good luck! Go get 'em!

Kevin Mackinnon from ironmanlive.com summed it up beautifuly in a pre-race update of his:

“It’s an Ironman … it’s not supposed to be easy.”

I was a HUGE bundle of nerves this morning and tried to take a nap this afternoon. Could not sleep for the life of me. Worrying about tacks, wind, heat, humidity, possible hail with tornado-esque winds…whatever. You can’t do anything about it…accept it and move on…oh…and watch Napoleon Dynamite. I needed a laugh.

Right you are ahoodlum. That is the mindset of a person who will have a good race tomorrow. Best wishes.

This is for you and your 2000+ friends:

Thanks Tom, very well spoken.

I passed Clas in the hallway this morning, but didn’t get a chance to say hi. I’m racked next to the pros so I know Bjorn is here, but I haven’t seen him yet.

Managed a half hour nap this afternoon, but now I’m just sitting with my feet up trying to think about something else.

All that means too F’n hot for me to compete. I’ll watch while sipping beers on State Stret

Here is the latest TAF for the Wisconsin Area, its in aviation format so I hope everyone can read it, it seems like the weather looks good :))))))

.

60% humidity is good. I would melt.

Good luck everyone!!

Dave

I didn’t check the rest or the posts here, but for the best and most accurate weather forecasts go to

www.nws.noaa.gov

Click on the Madison area-ish area of the Wisconsin map and look. Virtually every other Web site and service draws their forecasts from the NWS.

I should have pasted this earlier…so you don’t have to click:
