I choke up

When reading IM race reports. there I said it - I’m a wimp. Sometimes it gets real bad and I get chills to, such a fag.

who doesn’t?

First IM next week, any recommended choker upper RR’s to get me in the mood?

Is this Khai with a different screen name? Or Bottomfeeder?

Not exactly a race report, but Hurricane Bob’s Ironman Canada piece gave me the chills every time I read (or heard it on a podcast) last year before IMC. Not sure if it has the same effect for other races, but here it is:

Nah, I’m serious. I just finished Jodi’s and was all bleary about it.

I should qualify that with it’s usually the folks with actual goals who have put a significant amount of themselves into the preparation for the event that get me. The typical purple shirt “competitor” who “finished it” rarely tugs my heart strings.

i’m the same way. just about lost it on jodi’s. get’s me fired up about a first IM next year, though. mine, from a lowly half: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=1344873#1344873

Godammit parkito, now you’re making me go read Jodi’s RR’s to see what the hubbub is all about. Although I have to say 12:30 for a first Ironman is insane. She better not be bitchin’ about how she was hurting like a dog on the run… That would be blantant sandbagging.

If you haven’t read it, Molly Zahr’s from 2006 IMLP is a pretty good read. A fairly high choke factor…:

I’m doing IMC this year…damnit, you made me tear up!

Ditto here, but it still doesn’t make me want to DO one…

Yea man, I know what you’re talking about. Those purple shirts never have “actual goals” or anything worthwhile to contribute to the sport of triathlon.

Give me a break…everyone that does a triathlon has a goal and everyone that does it puts a significant amount of themselves into it. Even if you finish last you can’t complete a triathlon without putting a significant amount of yourself into it.

The Blazeman and Breen story didn’t cause you to stop and reflect at all? Or is it different b/c it’s on a smaller scale and didn’t get in your way?

Nah, I’m serious.

I’ll let you in on a little secret, you’re not the only one. I ain’t naming names or nothin’, and will deny anything you present in a court of law. That’s all I’m sayin’.

I am going “to qualify” that it’s the folks on here that continuously bash “purple shirts” because they have nothing better to talk about. What, are you scared that some snobs on ST might think that your heart strings were dare pulled by someone wearing a purple singlet? Good lord, who cares if TNT people dont pull your strings! The only thing you’re doing is stirring the pot on this.

If ALL tri newbies wore yellow singlets in every race across the world, would there be a hate against them? Probably, because the only thing the purple singlet does is put a target on their back so that other people who pay the same expensive registration fee for the same race course have something to bitch about it.

Thanks for clarifying.

You’re welcome

I got choked up reading Jodi’s race report too. All those Ironman videos have the same effect. Stupid testaments to the human spirit and their inspiring ways…

It’s called passion! It’s called life! Go with it! Tears are our gateway to the soul (no comments vitus). Get all chocked and loopy about people over coming hurdles and living a dream. Be proud!
