I can't stop eating junk!

I have completely lost control this year. In the past, I had the discipline to eat good and it paid off as I felt better during training and I raced well. This year I seem to have lost all control. I eat garbage, and lots of it. I find myself eating most of my meals in the car. Every day I tell myself this is the day I start eating better and inevitably I fall off the wagon by noon. I even tried watching Super Size me thinking it would convince me to stop eating fast food. All it did was make me jealous of the guy who got to eat it all the time.

Before you completely go off on me, I am a fairly fit 5"11, 165 pounds. So obviously I’m not obese. And truth is it’s not the weight that concerns me as much as my race performances and knowing my arteries are closing with every bite.

Feel free to blast me for being weak, bit I can’t be the only one here. How do you guys stay focused? Please advise!!!

Usually the only time I crave crap is
A) Right after a hard workout.
B) I haven’t replenished myself from the daily routine and workouts.

Have you been eating enough during the day to sustain your body. Your body usually craves the crap when it needs sugar (at least that is how it works with me). Any change in diet lately? Are you working out more than in the past?

Today is Day 82 without ice cream (I used to eat it almost every day). 11 days to go. Your behavior (training, diet, etc.) will match the importance to you of your race performances. Funny how it works that way. If your diet interferes with your racing, then perhaps your racing isn’t as important to you as you think it is. I’m not as fully prepared for my only ‘A’ race of the year as I’d like to be, but that’s because it isn’t quite as important as I might have thought.

I don’t want to phase you out, but this guy I know that just won his second IM race last sunday… he LOVES ice cream… and won’t stop eating it before races :-p

if I dont lose 6 lbs by Sept you will probably poke fun at me and taunt me while swimming and running at camp … “hey fat boy, run faster!”

that is my motivation … for sure

Gee… you make me look like the weight nazi… it’s not like that at all… :-p

I do what I can with what little I have. That guy doesn’t need to do it; I determined that it would be a significant positive step in my preparation.

P.S. Had my fastest ride of the season by .5mph or so on my 11 mile TT last night, despite feeling like crap and having an average HR of only 147…

well, you’ve probably gotten yourself addicted to crappy food. if you really wanted to stop you would. obviously you’re not experiencing any pain from your behavior, and you’re getting a pay off from what you’re doing. so, think about what the pay off is and decide if you can do without it. if yes, then it will take you a week to quit freaking out and to have your tastes change. expect that week to be hard, and you could be pissed off alot. but, if you can get through that your tastes will change radically.

Same for me, it seems like the more miles I pack in a week the more junk I eat so my weight actually increases.

dave…step away from the mayonnaise. step away from the chips. and for God’s sakes, don’t dip the chips into the mayonnaise…

(just kidding)
