I presume that becasue we received some today, Cervelo dealers around the US in the same UPS zone did as well.
For those waiting for P2K’s we are filling backorders with P2SL’s per Cervelo’s suggestion at your option.

So based upon your experience, how long should the consumer wait to be contacted by any LBS about the possibility of purchasing a P2SL given that this particular consumer has been patiently calling and begging bike shops and asking for a P2K since the first week of January and has yet to have anyone respond in any meaningful manner?
He told me they started shipping last week - so to answer your question - I would say yes - they are hitting the stores and are ready to start moving out!
Nicely shaped frame, but man, I just can’t stomach the paint scheme; I don’t understand the graphics. The white P2 was even worse. I purposefully bought a used 2001 model so I could get a simple red paint job.
The anodizing is probably responsible for the entire 100g weight reduction. Amazing bit of marketing - Lowering a frame’s weight by 100g = SuperLight. 100g is about the weight of a PowerBar and a mouthful of water.
How much more than the P2 is the P2SL? Just curious.
“I just can’t stomach the paint scheme; I don’t understand the graphics”
I totally agree, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. Bring back the red and the blue ones.
Good. If everybody liked it, I’d be worried. What’s not to understand? On the seattube is a “cervelo” logo, that’s our name. On the downtube is an “e” logo, at least the part of it that fits on the downtube, and it’s another logo that represents Cervelo. Seems pretty simple to me. If you want a frame with the same old boring graphics that all bikes have, a big logo on the downtube, etc, there is plenty of choice.
Last year people were complaining there were too many Cervelo logos on some of our bikes (four to six, gasp, the horror) so we made a graphics scheme with only two.
If you don’t like it, just look at it as an alternative way to reduce demand.
To me the advantage of the P2 SL is more the scratch-resistance than the weight savings (SL = Scratch-resistant & Light). As for the upcharge, the extra amount we charge is less than the extra costs to make them, so from that point of view I’d rather sell a P2K than a P2 SL.
Thanks for the explanation. I was surprised at the negligible increase in price, and, judging by the condition of the paint on my 2001 P2k, I should go for the anodized finish. I wish the graphics on the P2k were sexier, like on the P3SL or the Soloist team. I’d plunk down some cash, then.
I remember hearing somewhere in the mid-90’s that anodizing aluminum was less than optimal, at least in a wheel application, because it would create stress risers (or somesuch) where the finish cracked…now, I don’t have any idea if that is true…but I do know that wheel manufacturers all but quit making anodized finished rims shortly after I remember seeing or hearing that application. Frankly, I never saw any issues with it, and chalked it up to one of those ill-quoted engineer things that some guy got hold of and twisted around somehow.
