I broke my foot in a workout three days before cross country season starts

so cross country season starts saturday. wednesday my coach had a 3-mile time check to see who the top 7 would be. well, about a mile in, i roll my ankle, think nothing of it. this morning i wake up and can barely walk. hobble thorugh school, then go to my dad’s office (who’s a chiropractor) and get an x-ray. it turns out my foot is broken. out four weeks best case scenario. i can stick bike and swim though and probably only have to have a boot and crutches. so just venting about how i will probly miss 5-6 meets out of 11 all season. and i was suposed to be the #2-3 runner on the team. oh well…

Tough luck. Injuries/layoffs occur to most of us. Its how you respond/react to them that’s important.
Healing vibes and good luck. Let us know how the rest of your season goes.

I hate to break this news to you … but a “rolled ankle” with a foot fracture that a chiropractor can see (no offense meant as these are often missed in ERs all the time) is likely a Jone’s or 5th metatarsal base avulsion fracture. These take a LOT longer to heal than 4-6 weeks :frowning:

Good luck

i’ve had three chiros look at it today and they all said it was broken, but i’m going to see a podiatrist tommorow to see what the real scoop is and what course of action to take
.

That’s OK, isn’t the swimming season starting about now as well? Swimming is more fun anyway

except i swim just because you have to to do tri’s
.

Repeat after me.

Swimming is fun.

Swimming is fun.

Swimming is fun.

Swimming is fun.

Swimming is fun.

Swimming is fun.

Swimming is fun.

Now go do a set of 10x400IM (full stroke fly) on 5:30. It’s character-building.

Sorry to hear about your fx and ((((hugs))))
.

damn that sucks:P always right before your race too… another STr, one of those weird Canadian STrs, convinced me last year to do these funky Canadian form drills the week before a race when I was in the best running shape I’ve probably ever been in. Weird drills were totally not compatible with us Americans and I landed funny, cracked a metatarsal, ran 5x1mile afterwards and couldn’t even stand on my foot the next day…

anyways, good luck with the rest, sure you’ll come back even stronger than before. Great time to work on your swimming though!!! Plus you can probably start biking in a stiff cycling quicker than you can run.
