Transcripts from trumps calls…

Malcom , why is this so important? I do not understand. This is going to kill me. I am the world’s greatest person that does not want to let people into the country

WTF talks about thrmselves like this. Its awesome

Here’s a link to the article, in case anybody hasn’t seen it yet:

Completely aside from the content of the transcripts, it’s pretty unacceptable for transcripts of private conversations between heads of state to be leaked to the news prior to approval of their release. Just like governments have to be able to classify some information and keep it secret, leaders need to be able to be confident that their private conversations will remain private.

I love how the people of Mexico say they want the wall but in a different language.

agreed - i’m not an assange-ite believer in total transparency, much as i enjoy seeing trump revealed as a clown. i think if two heads of state want to have an off-the-record conversation, that’s just fine by me. i wonder if, some day, there will be a whole deep-throatesque archaeology of identifying the sources of some of these leaks.

also: are these records the kind of thing that could (eventually) be requested under FOI, or would they always stay secret?

Serious enough that even some on the left are saying this is too far; damaging to not just this president, but to the country/future occupants of the WH.

Did you also catch how the PM of Australia knew more about the Boston Bombers than the president –

And they’re potentially damaging to other foreign leaders or their countries depending on what they say that is released.

Agree with Slowguy as to the problems with this sort of thing being leaked.

As to the substance of the transcripts… I think I might be getting past outrage or amusement at Trump’s antics. I’m approaching a mindset of sympathy. Trump is truly a pathetic character in just about every way I can imagine.

Well that is not true at all. Trump told us he knows more about terrorism then his generals so there we go.

I think it’s pretty obvious that he is trying to convey that he is the greatest proponent of trying to keep bad people out of the country. However, bad wording like this just lets CNN and a lot of people on this forum interpret it literally because it suits their preferred viewpoint. Trump desperately needs to start being more mindful of how he words things, no question.

Greg

That is a good point. He ran for president to boost his profile so he can get a better contract for The Apprentice and was caught by surprise by the shocking incompetence of the Democrats and general stupidity of the American people. The dog caught the car he only wanted to chase and has no idea what to with it. We are watching a man being destroyed by his own ambition and ego. Just a Fox News Grandpa in a place he doesn’t want to be in.

Trump desperately needs to start being more mindful of how he words things, no question.

So do you think he has a keen, subtle intellect and a deep understanding of the issues and what goes amiss is he can’t convey it well when he talks?

Yeah, it is not a precedent we need to be setting.

Early on, in say 2007 or 2008, I thought Wikileaks may have some benefit. Heck I have all the Scientology stuff I downloaded from them. So if you want to learn about Xenu I think it is in there, I never got around to reading it. But then the motives either changed or were revealed. The focus wasn’t on honesty, but in chaos. It wasn’t about revealing facts, but embarrassing people and they exposed things that actually needed to be secret.

Things are said in high level conversations that are not meant to be heard by others. And if either side thinks the contents are going to be revealed it makes it much more difficult to have open and honest exchanges.

I think that’s probably why there are so many leaks. Responsible people see him in action and can’t believe we have such a buffoon as president.

I mean that his ‘understanding of the issues’ is one hell of a lot better than Hillary or Obama. I can’t stand the guy, but I am thankful every day that HE is in the White House and not Hillary.

But, you can continue to make snarky, sarcastic and meaningless posts all you want. He will continue to provide fodder for your remarks. If you raise your game just a little bit, you could probably land a job as a talking head on CNN. They have lost a lot of them lately.

Carry on.

Greg

I mean that his ‘understanding of the issues’ is one hell of a lot better than Hillary or Obama.

What do you base that on if you can’t trust what he says is what he means?

And really the rest it isn’t germane to anything. He may be a hell of lot better than Hillary or Obama and still a shallow buffoon.

He believes the people of Mexico want a border wall and want Mexico to pay for it. There is no understanding.

I have less sympathy. I think its becomming increasingly apparent that the village idiot got elected

I am not sure he has ever demonstrated a keen grasp of anything bar the apprentice tv series.

I want to know how the hell he got richer after daddy died. People walked into the room with him and said to themselves, “Yeah this guy has it together. I trust him with my money.” It’s astounding. It is proof that the free market doesn’t guarantee the cream rises to the top.
