I am sure this photo will make the older guys in the peloton smile :)

Sergio was allowed to race with the adults (not wearing his youth team uniform) for the first time in the town circuit.

He was expecting older company and a very tough race, but never imagined that the oldest of them all would try to brake away ;).

The photo was in todays newspaper, captioned “Los traigo asoleados”. This is difficult to translate but it means something like “I am burning them out”.

That picture is HILARIOUS!

Thanks for sharing it

Jodi

That rocks. Great pic.

How’d he do? I saw a post that you deleted before I could read it…

is that him in the CSC uni on the front left?

LOL!!

You should have copywrited that photo before posting it.

I hit the wrong button when checking if the photo was the right size Khai.

Yes, he is the one on the front left in the CSC team uniform. Normally they would not let him race in that uniform but his youth season is over and he wanted to try it out in a race. He knows the organizer so he asked for permission to use it.

The picture is copyrighted. The news photographer that took it is sports photographer Mario Rivera from the *Primera Hora de Sinaloa *newspaper. I asked the reporter to send me a bigger picture to share it and she candidly did.

The race was “only” 80 km up a mountain and down. Sergio was the first one to attack on the first steep hill, he got about 70 90 m away and… being a rider with zero accumulated points on the series (and just a 14 y/o kid) of course no one went after him. Then the course got steeper and steeper and he was passed by some riders. It was a very hot and VERY humid day. He finished about mid pack. He has climbed many times but this was his first real race with a good amount of climbing. He also dropped his chain and that cost him at least 2 or three places. It was a painful experience but I think that he enjoyed it. It was also good that he did not even got mentioned in the race report in the newspapers. I guess he was getting spoiled riding against kids his age. He told me that he just wanted to have fun on this race but when I saw him attack as soon as he had the chance, it was very clear to me that he had something else in mind. Now he realizes that he was in a suicide mission doing that. He is a very tired kid now and enjoying his day off. I left him after lunch trying to read a cycling book written in English and as I was going out the door he reminded me (without me asking) that LA finished dead last in his first pro race.

I do not remember seeing that old man on the race. I guess I was too busy trying to keep an eye on my rider from the support car. Today in the morning I had a good laugh when I saw the picture in the newspaper of this old man riding his bike on front of the main group with a hard to describe smile.

I am glad you enjoyed it.

Sergio

It’s the aero headgear and footwear.

I am surprised no one has said anything about his position

Sergio
.

He’s doping for sure!!!

Are those tubulars or clinchers?

Jodi

Are those tubulars or clinchers?

Jodi

Hard to tell from the photograph but… When was the last time you saw a rider on tubulars with such a confident expression in his face?

Sergio

Picture post of the YEAR!!!

tfun~

Great picture. My friend did that at Kona, but we didn’t get a picture of it on Alii Drive. Thomas Hellonwheels came roaring toward Kona Surf. We were on beach cruzers and I noticed that a hilo and ten cops might indicate someone was coming pretty quick, so I pull over… My buddy keeps riding in the middle of the road and gets a dust off by Mr. Hell himself. We still laugh about that good move over a few beers.

What are you thinking? He has the optimal position for his aero equipment.

Cool picture… LOVE those brakes… like the Oma Fietsen in Holland!

Where was the race at?

En Mazatlan, en Rosario, o no era en Sinaloa?

Yes it is in Sinaloa, between Mazatlan and El Rosario but much closer to Mazatlan. It is a new road that takes you to a dam in construction higher than El Recodo.

The photo below of the older guys (Veteranos “C” Cat.) gives you a better reference of the area.

Irondad… I have no idea what type of bike is that, but I am pretty sure we will run into this gentleman again. I will ask.

Sergio

I just found my new screensaver! Superb. It’s very similar in feel to one that was on the CSC site:
