I am a Vikingman (screw Ironman)

Did the Vikingman in Fredericia the day before the world champs on Aug 6. Swim was shortened to 1.9k… but whateva.

Thoughts:

  • 14C water is fucking cold!! (was it even that warm or did they lie to us?). No frickin way I was going to finish a 3.8km swim in that.
  • Jellyfish suck
  • Final finishers came in just under 14hrs… No overwieght mid-life crisis people looking to bag an iron race here.
  • Michael Krüger wins in 8:15. Add 25mins for an extra 1.9k on the swim… and still stinking fast. Ever heard of this guy outside of Denmark? I haven’t. He is the Danish national tri coach.
  • Scandos are a fit bunch… the average AG’er there seemed a lot tougher.

I paid ~$320CDN for this race. Factor in that Denmark is stupid expensive for EVERYTHING… and this race was a ridiculous bargain as IM racing goes.

The Fredericia race organizers were friggin outstanding too… both events on that weekend kicked ass.

Hey man…what are the distances of the Vikingman ?

Iron distance… but the swim was shortened due to insanely cold water.

The race organizers have it so all the locals and people not competing in the ITU champs could still do a race.
It was called the “citizens race” I believe. They don’t hold it every year either… I think next year it is the ITU LD Duathlon champs only.
