Bennett and Henning. They have pretty good video recap on the website.

The women’s race was very good. Lead pack of 8 almost the entire bike being pulled by McLarty every time I saw them. She rode very well. Top three running together were Luxford, Sweetland and Bennett. Those three were side by side for most of the run. I did not see where Sweetland dropped but I heard she lost the pace and then collapsed in the street. By the time the cameras at the finish line picked up the lead group it was down to two. There was a hill going up to the capital with maybe 1k to go and that’s where Bennett made her move. She just went up the hill and Luxford couldn’t stick with her. I think Bennett ended up winning by 15-20 seconds. Great great race.

Men’s race saw a huge pack of 30+ out on the bike. Matt Reed blew up the pack when he made a break on the second or third loop. At one point he was up by 30-40 seconds. But a group of 6-8 had reeled him in by the next lap. Once on the run Henning was incredible. He just kept putting time into second place and ran away with the race.

It was a great event. Glad I was able to spectate, but kicking myself for forgetting my camera.

That’s cool that you got to watch, I’d love to see an event like that. I saw some of the online coverage and it seemed like a good race.

You’re coming to LP, right? You ready?

I loved watching the whole day. We were at the first corner when they got downtown, standing on the inside line and just watched them freight train through there two feet away…flying. Then moved up to another corner where they came down a little hill and turned at the bottom…just flying through these corners. Very very cool.

The run was exciting from a strategy standpoint. Watching the lead group of women and wondering who would make the move and where it would come. And would they hold off Ohata who was really coming on behind them (she ended up third…after Sweetland went out of the race).

You know that euphoria that you get from sticking around an IM finish line for a few hours? I have that going on.

My only disappointment: This is a huge huge event, an hour from my house. And I did not race in the AG race in the morning. Stupid. Of course I did ride 4:30+ 30 min brick instead. But man. To not race. Stupid.

I am coming to LP…in fact just booked a flight and rental car within the past few weeks. I am not sure 5 weeks is enough. Never is though, is it. Training is going pretty well actually. I’ve been consistent for most of the year, so hoping that translates to a good race.
