Hydraulic Brake Line "Quick Release" Couplers

Situation: Di2-equipped Cervelo P5 with no excess brake hose length. Want to travel lots. Some ass-pain involved in removing front caliper just to get the base bar off and folded against the frame, plus concern about kinking and possibly rupturing the rear brake line during transport with the base bar folded up against the frame.

Mission: To fit inline quick release couplers on the brake lines that allow popping the base bar/extensions off/on, yet not worry about bleeding the brakes.

Anyone care to assist with Execution? I see Formula Brakes makes a coupler that might fit the bill, but as the P5 is Magura, there might be compatibility issues I haven’t spotted. Any pitfalls?

Dave

Formula uses DOT fluid while Magura uses mineral oil. The seals (I assume there are seals in the coupler) aren’t compatible.

I’m kind of “in” to see where this thread goes. For what it’s worth, check out how Caroline Steffen sets up her P5. P5-6 fork but she uses her own cockpit (partially so she can get low enough) and it appears to be very “travel friendly”.

I’m kind of in the same boat as you, trying to figure out how to travel easily with a super-bike (in my case, a Speed Concept). Once SRAM wireless comes out that will ease things a bit but the big deal is dealing with brakes.

Do you think the Di2 will go wireless? When is SRAM supposed to come out with their stuff?

Di2 probably will go wireless at some point. I’ve heard two different theories regarding SRAM wireless:
-this December in limited release.
-no eta, maybe 2016
