What do you guys/gals do for hydration on aero bikes. I can fit one water bottle cage on my seat tube, but I like to have two water bottles with me for longer rides. My Issues are: 1) I can’t put a water bottle cage on my down tube because its aero; 2) In between my aero bars, I can’t put my Profile bottle thing because the aero bars are VisionTech and the gap is too wide for my thin Profile water bottle, which would just hang there too free and unstable; and 3) I can’t use that water bottle system on my seat post because it’s an aero seatpost and I haven’t seen any aero-friendly attachable devices.
One thing I’ve seen is something that mounts to the seat bars itself, but then I don’t know what I do with my bag of goodies under my seat. Is this my only hope?
Any saddle rail mounted system will work. They normally hold 2 bottles. Since you have a mounted bottle already, use one side for your 2nd bottle and the other side for your repair stuff.
Thanks for the feedback. I think I’m resolved to go with a saddle-mounted system. Which one is best?
I’ve seen a very simple aluminum system, a Tacx saddle clamp, and from Xlab (FlatWing or SaddleWing). I think at this point the FlatWing looks most promising, but I’m wondering: 1) Slowtwitchers’ experience with all of them; and 2) specifically the FlatWing’s stability and utility. Thanks.
I think the one on my bike is made by Minoura? Very simple system that allows two water bottles to be attached. I’ve also never launched bottles, like I’ve heard some of the XLab products have a tendency to do.
I would go with the Flatwing SYSTEM. The Saddlewing is fairly close to the butt and may interfere when you move to the rear of the saddle. When installing, use Loctite to prevent loosening of screws.
Profile makes a bracket for mounting the aero bottle, or you can do what I did… a piece of foam pipe insulation around each extension fills the gap enough to allow the aero bottle to fit with a large rubberband to hold it in place.
