Who’s headed out to Iowa this weekend to race Hy-Vee? I’m coming out from Los Angeles to get a taste of the mid-west action and what seems to be some seriously stiff competition. Any of that competition coming from the ST crowd?
I’ve heard that it likely won’t be wetsuit legal - anybody in the area know if that is actually the case?

This is the first year I am NOT doing it…but will be there on the sidelines. It’s a first class event all the way. Water temp today is 73* and more rain in the forecast with air temps in the mid 80’s all week. I wouldn’t leave the wetsuit at home.
I will only be doing the swim part as a team as I am doing CDA on the 27th. Forecast for this week is for a rain and clouds, current water temp is 73 per the website. My guess right now is that it will be wetsuit legal unless we get some serious sunshine over the next few days. I have seen this lake really heat up in a couple of days. My suggestion is bring the wetsuit, but be prepared to swim without it…
Thanks for the info guys. I’ll definitely bring the wetsuit, but am comfortable with or without it.

I’m in, should be a fun time. Unfortunately I’m missing the US-UK opening round match on my flight in so I’m well pissed about that.
Won’t be doing it this year, did a 70.3 this past weekend and will be out of town, however I’ve done the USAT AG race in the past and thought it was a great race. It was not wetsuit legal last year and the RD seemed entirely content with that, i.e. I did not get the feeling at all that they would hunt for cold water or round down on the water temp. I’d still bring a wetsuit but just be prepared in case you can’t use it.
As for the race itself, great goodies, lots of food for the spectators and the athletes, more showmanship than I’ve seen for any other non-WTC race. All and all it’s a good time, have a fun out there.
Yup. My first Triathlon of the season. Feeling pretty good. Hoping the T-Storms forcasted move out of the area…
IN.
by the way, if you look at the event footprint, there is a beer garden indicated for this year. Yeah!
I’m in as well, will be my first Oly. Raced pigman last weekend so pretty tired but ready to give it a try.
I could be wrong but I believe the lake has gotten cooler since the rain has came in.
Like others have said, it heats up fast.
I am hoping to have it wetsuit legal but won’t depend on it.
Good luck and have fun!
From a fellow Iowan!
I will be out there…getting there Friday night.
Who is going to the big ST bash?
If the big ST bash is at The High Life where we can drink PBR in a bar decked out in shag carpet and eat some bacon-wrapped tator tots - I’M IN!
I’m not opposed to The Lumberyard either.
Chip, what are details on this bash that you mention?
Hell if I know, I think we need to put something together.
I hope to make it. I’m gonna try to scramble to come up with the entry fee and gas money.
It would be my second tri and first Oly.
Good chance I’d be sleeping in my truck somewhere. Last minute entries are close to $200! But I’ve heard such great things about the race and all the freebies.

I see the bike course is an out and back, not a looped course like in the past. What is the bike course like? Flat?
Let me know if you need a place to crash…my brother lives in W. Des Moines and has plenty of room.
It is mostly flat. It has about 4 hills you hit each way but they aren’t to bad. Run has a few good hills to run up though
With all this rain Sat. morning, and possibly more this evening, it’s a good chance it will be wetsuit legal.
Everyone should stop by the DSMTri Club tent after the race. Not sure where exactly it will be set up yet, but just look for this logo

Hitting the road shortly.
I’ll be easy to spot if you want to find me. I’m rocking bright pink fingernails.
