HY-VEE Parking?

I just returned from Grays lake, the transition area for next weeks Hy-Vee race.

Where the hell are we supposed to park our cars???

I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

FWIW…this should be a great race for the us age groupers. The city has already started preparations.

Spectator stands at the finish line. It looks like the streets will be closed to traffice for the race. Flat, fast bike and run course. I cannot wait.

Don’t know about the parking - sorry. But, it seems like I’ve heard there will be shuttle buses running.

How was the water level? I take it there is not flooding now?

I read on the website busses will be available to take you back to the transition area after the finish. I didn’t read that they would be available in the morning.

I’ve never been to the lake before today; so I don’t know what it normally looks like but I can tell you this, it ain’t flooded. If anything, I thought the lake looked low.

Wasn’t what I would call crystal clear either. It looked like a typical IA body of water…brown.

Uhhh yeah have fun with that everyone luckly my coach lives less then a mile away… I thought the same thing though there isn’t much parking right by it and if the streets downtown are closed that leaves even less. there are quite a few parking garages downtown but who knows how that will work out if you want to leave before everyone is done.

I emailed the RD and he replied that parking will be in Waterworks park across the street from Gray’s Lake. For other large events they have just had people park on greenspace and have had people directing traffic. With the way this event is being run, I would expect the same.

*access off of I-235: from eastbound - exit 7th St, westbound traffic exit at 3rd St

  • parking is in Waterworks park

  • handicapped parking SW parking lot of Gray’s Lake near finish line at E 10th & Des Moines St

  • Shuttle buses will run regularly from the lake to downtown

  • watch jumbotrons located @ the lake, Court Ave between 4th & 5th St, and at finish line/State Capitol and the Pepsi Stage in West Capitol Terrace Park.

Thank you Jason
.

There will be plenty of parking across the street in Waterworks Park.

I just noticed the web site that the water temperature in Grey’s Lake was 80 degrees as of last night. As the temperature forecast is for warm and muggy weather through the weekend, probably no we suits.

This should be a great race.

Maybe we will get some rain between now and then and it will cool down, 80 must be surface temp
